Enduring, eclectic, endlessly appealing – Europe is easy to explore and impossible to forget.
Trying to decide between hiking through rugged wilderness, touring 13th-century churches and sipping wine in the sun? In Europe you can do it all and do it well. The walkable ruins of Italy will transport you back to a time when the Romans ruled an empire. Sweden’s indulgent national dishes will have your tastebuds begging for more. The natural beauty found in Scotland is guaranteed to ignite the mythical side of your imagination. And that’s only the beginning. From the breezy Mediterranean to the chilly Baltics, our European tours have something for every traveler.
A collection of five pastel-painted villages and terraced vineyards built into rugged seaside cliffs, the Cinque Terre is a romantic introduction to the Italian Riviera. Once only accessible by the 12-kilometer pathway that links them together, a train line has made the medieval towns easier to explore in a single day.
The dancing, multi-coloured lights of the Aurora Borealis are a mesmerizing natural phenomenon, and one of the best places to see it is the high northern hemisphere. Leave the city lights in the rear-view mirror and grab a front-row seat for a chance to catch Mother Nature putting on a dazzling show.
Relax on deserted beaches and dive into crystal-clear water – sailing the small islands of Greece is the perfect introduction to life on the Cyclades. Discover islands that resemble Greece as it was 30 years ago as you feast on sumptuous seafood in oceanfront tavernas and soak up sublime sunsets from the deck of your yacht.
The celebrated Mercado de Abastos (Abastos Market) in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, is the perfect place to pick up some fresh produce or classic Galician dishes like empanadas. You can grab cheese and fruit for a picnic or have a fresh-caught centolo (spider crab) or navalla (razor clam) cooked to order.
Crystal-clear emerald lakes, tumbling waterfalls and lush green forest flanked by the towering peaks of the Julian Alps make Slovenia the perfect place for an alpine adventure. Whether you'd prefer to hike, bike or paddle your way through the Alps, exercise has never been so exhilarating.
Littered with fairy chimneys, ancient underground cities and cliff-carved dwellings, the landscapes of Cappadocia in Turkey are a truly unforgettable sight. Jump in a hot air balloon for a bird's-eye view and marvel at how the sunrise illuminates the skyline. Even if you'd prefer not to take a flight, it's worth waking up early to see the sky dotted with dozens of hot air balloons.

Amalfi Coast: Hike & Kayak
MARION · Traveled September 2024
This was my first solo trip and I was a bit apprehensive. I was quickly put at ease by the amazing group of people on my tour and our awesome tour guide, Giovanni! The hikes were quite challenging, but worth every step (and I do mean steps! ) The views, the interaction with nature and the local culture , were beyond compare. My favorite part was the time in Agerola. The hotel, little town, hikes and lunch at the local farmhouse were awesome!!! Thank you, Giovanni, Intrepid and my amazing tour mates for this incredible experience!

Portugal Real Food Adventure, featuring Galicia
Ellen · Traveled September 2024
This was a wonderfully well organised trip with an exceptionally good group leader (Monica). The mini bus driver Armando was really good, a safe driver, helpful with loading and unloading cases. Both Monica & Armando went above and beyond. Monica the group leader had wonderful communication skills and was very knowledgeable about the area, with lots of hints & tips. Daily communication on WhatsApp was super.
I loved the visit to the winery, dining outside overlooking the vineyards was amazing, great food, delicious wine and a location that was beautiful. Also the winery tour was far more interesting than previous tours of this nature. The walking tour in Porto was fabulous. Overall, a most enjoyable holiday and a great way to see and experience Portugal.

Portuguese Camino
Meaghan · Traveled September 2024
The Portuguese Camiño was an amazing experience. Intrepid allowed us to travel seamlessly with each stop well organised and luggage transferred. Our group leader Eli was a highlight as well - her knowledge of the Camiño and enthusiasm for the journey was contagious! Highly recommend this trip if you’re a keen walker.
Whether or not you need a visa to travel to European countries largely depends on the nationality on your passport and whether the country you're traveling to is part of the Schengen Agreement.
This agreement sees 26 European countries offer visa-free travel to nationals from 60 other countries including Australia, the United States, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
You can easily access the internet in most countries in Europe, generally in capital cities and other major towns. Internet access may be limited in regional locations such as national parks or remote villages in some countries.
You shouldn't have a problem using your cell phone while traveling throughout Europe, however, your international data roaming will need to be activated in order to connect to the internet or send messages (unless you connect to the local wi-fi).
There is no 'best time' to travel around Europe as most countries offer plenty to do in every season of the year.
The most popular time to travel to countries like Greece, Italy, and Croatia is during the summer months (June, July, and August) so you can make the most of each country's respective beaches and warm weather.
Countries such as Iceland, Norway, and Sweden are known for their snowy landscapes and northern lights sightings during Winter (December, January, and February).
A tour in Europe can vary depending on the countries you want to visit, the style of tour, and how long you want to go for but you can expect to pay anywhere between USD$1,000 to USD$5,000, with most tours around USD$2,500.
Tipping isn't as prevalent in Europe as it is in some other countries and definitely isn't expected, but if you like the quality of service you've been given at hotels, restaurants etc then a tip is always appreciated.
While credit cards are accepted in all European countries (especially in capital cities and other larger cities), smaller cafes or local run businesses may not have EFTPOS machines so it's always best to carry around a little cash to cover these expenses.
You should have no problem finding ATMs in most European cities.
The official currency of Europe is the Euro (€), however, only 19 of the 28 countries in the European Union use this. Countries that still use their own currency include Norway, Switzerland, Belarus, Croatia, Denmark, and Sweden.
Europe is considered a reasonably safe continent for LGBTQIA+ travelers with plenty of countries openly accepting, welcoming, and embracing the community.
This is evident in large capital cities such as Paris, Berlin, Madrid, and Vienna.
Some countries still hold traditional religious beliefs such as Belarus and Poland so a degree of caution should be taken when travelling around cities and remote regions in those countries.
If you plan on traveling to multiple countries throughout Europe then purchasing an all-in-one, worldwide adapter is the safest way to go.
If you don't want to do that, your safest bet is to buy an adapter that uses C or E/F-type plugs as most European countries recognize this.
Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip.
