Accessible tours and travel

Everyone deserves to explore the world

The joy of travel is for everyone. We’re always learning how we can make our trips more inclusive and continue to strive towards growth. We want to help more travelers explore different cultures, experience new places and support local communities, regardless of ability or disability.

Know before you go

Some destinations are better suited for travelers with disabilities than others. Some destinations we visit lack accessible public infrastructure or facilities designed to accommodate travelers with disabilities, but we’re committed to providing all the information you need and walk through possible, reasonable adjustments with you so that you can decide whether the trip is the right one for you.

Our group trips are designed to immerse travelers in the heart of each destination. This means spending a lot of time on your feet or on the move, and different countries have different terrains. It’s important to also consider things like early mornings, busy days, navigating crowds and encountering different accents. We also ask that our travelers are able to manage their own luggage throughout the journey, maybe through train stations, boat embarkments or simply within hotel premises.

Having somebody who can assist or support you may help in making a trip more accessible. Depending on the itinerary, our trips also often include free time for independent exploration. This can be used as downtime, but if there are any optional activities you’d like to take on, having a companion to support you may help during these moments. Planning in advance for what options might be most accessible to you will be helpful in gauging your needs and making the right trip choice.

What we are doing

Whether a trip meets a traveler’s accessibility needs is unique to the individual. We’re always happy to talk with you to see if we can help guide you towards the most suitable itinerary and provide you with as much information as possible about accessibility for your chosen trip based on your needs. Where possible, we will also look into whether any reasonable adjustments are possible and practical.

It’s also important to us that all travelers have a shared experience with the group. A core part of the value we offer lies in this experience – connecting with fellow travelers, engaging with local communities and learning from our leaders. When adjustments are needed to accommodate specific requirements, we carefully assess whether those changes might significantly impact the value our travelers would get from the experience. To keep the group travel experience intact, we’re not able to make extensive changes to our trips.

Do you have trips designed for travellers with disabilities?

Our existing itineraries are not specifically designed for travelers with disabilities, but that doesn’t mean you can't enjoy one of our small group trips – it's largely dependent on your specific needs and the destination you wish to visit.

How does Intrepid assess my ability?

We understand that every traveler has different needs, so we’re here to help you figure out whether a trip is the right match for you. Before you book, we’ll work with you to explore whether any reasonable adjustments can be made, so you can get the most out of the experience and book a holiday you feel confident in.

Completing an existing itinerary generally includes such things as being able to carry your own bags, using our existing transport and accommodation (such as local buses and home stays), and being able to look after yourself independently without your leader's supervision or other assistance, both in scheduled free time and during included activities and meals.

The more you share about your abilities, the better we can tailor the information we give you about your trip and let you know what adjustments or alternatives might be possible.
