Bryce Canyon National Park tours & vacations

There’s really no ‘best’ time to visit Bryce Canyon because each season offers something slightly different. The peak season is from June to September when the weather is warm, days are sunny and trails are at their most accessible. But, this is also the busiest time, so if you’d prefer fewer crowds, then your best time to go is in the shoulder months of April and October. Winter may be snowy, but it’s a magical time to see the red rocks dusted in white.  

The weather in Bryce is unpredictable because of the park’s high elevation climate, like snowstorms happening as early as October or as late as April. Summer stays warm with temperatures ranging from 60 to 80°F and brief afternoon thunderstorms rolling through frequently in July and August. 

Daily temperatures are mild in both spring and fall with temps dropping significantly at night. It’s not uncommon for there to be snow, but for the most part, it’s nice enough to only need a light jacket. Winter is cold and snowy, with peak snowfall happening from December to February.   

Bryce Canyon is most famous for its hoodoos and being home to the world’s largest concentration of these unique rock formations. The park’s vibrant landscape is filled with reds, oranges and whites that contrast against the blue sky, making it a popular spot for photographers. It’s also known for having some of the clearest, darkest night skies in the entire country and is ranked as a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, which means stargazing here is truly epic. On a clear, moonless night, there’s a chance of seeing the glowing band of the Milky Way Galaxy! 

Depends on when you go, but you should pack layers that are easy to take on and off for changing weather. Sturdy, comfortable hiking shoes are a must as well as a windproof rain jacket, reusable water bottle, a brimmed hat or beanie and a daypack. If you’re visiting in the colder months, pack a warm jacket and gloves.  

Yes, Bryce Canyon charges a fee for visitors entering the park. For travellers on an Intrepid trip, vehicle entrance fees and required permits are covered, but international visitors will need to pay additional nonresident entrance fees.
