North Africa's highest peak calls to be climbed.

Jebel Toubkal stands 4,167m above the mighty Atlas Ranges of Morocco. It’s a mountain that has captivated adventurers for centuries – a stark ascent through lowland floodplains, charming Berber villages and rocky gorges strewn with snow. The climb is not for the faint of heart, but the sweeping views from the peak, across the jagged line of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara beyond, have to be seen to be believed.

Get a little taste of local life after your trek

The best news? Your adventure's not over once you summit Mount Toubkal. Continue the fun and celebrate your hiking achievements by staying in a traditional gite (mountain house) in an Amazigh village nestled high in the Atlas Mountains. Experience local life firsthand as your host welcomes you with a warm, hearty home-cooked meal. Just what your aching muscles ordered.

Fall (September to November) and spring (March to May) provide the best conditions for trekking in the Atlas Mountains, with milder nights and less chance of snow. Of course trekking through the snow in winter (December to February) is an extraordinary experience in its own right, and a great challenge for experienced hikers.

If you plan on trekking during this time, you'll need to use crampons and ice picks, but you'll be treated to brilliant snow-capped mountain scenery and the trail will be less crowded.

You'll be walking anywhere between 2 miles to 6 miles per day, although changes in altitude can affect hiking time and distance.

All three of our Mount Toubkal trip itineraries differ quite significantly – our Classic Toubkal trek is arguably the easiest (and the one you should do if you're not used to climbing 4,000 meter peaks) as you climb the mountain at a slower pace with an extra acclimatization day included. However, if you're an experienced trekker and would like to get up the summit at a faster pace, our Long Weekend trip is a great choice, while our winter version of the Toubkal trek is best suited for trekkers who already have some winter hiking experience under their belt, are not afraid of low temperatures and are looking for more solitude.

Yes, yes and yes. You'll need hiking boots to complete this trek (don't try to complete it in sneakers). Your hiking boots should be comfortable (wear them in before the trek to avoid getting blisters along the way), water-resistant, sturdy and have plenty of ankle support.

Our Mount Toubkal trekking trips have a rating of 4 or higher (2 of our treks have a rating of 5), so you must be fit and healthy to complete the trek comfortably. While you don't need to spend hours in the gym every day in preparation, you should increase your usual exercise routine in the lead-up to your trip. Think cardio (lots of it) and participating in local hikes in your area and increasing. Doing some strength training will also give you the best chance of comfortably completing your Mount Toubkal hike. Keep in mind that previous mountain climbing or hiking experience is recommended.

You'll have to carry a day bag/backpack with you during the day while you're trekking. This is for your snacks, camera, reusable drink bottle etc. However, there will be mules accompanying you on your trek that will carry your luggage so you don't have to.

Yes! Your leader will be equipped with an advanced first aid kit for the duration of the trek, but please remember to carry your own personal medicines as well as additional medicine for altitude sickness if you know you're at risk of such conditions.
