Margaret River is a town in the South West corner of Western Australia. The easiest way to get there is by flying to Perth, and then driving or jumping on a coach or train to Margaret River. You can also fly to Busselton if you're traveling from Melbourne.
By air
The closest airport to Margaret River is Busselton (approx. 31 miles north of the town). Jetstar operates three flights per week between Busselton and Melbourne.
The next closest airports are Perth and Albany. Perth may be more convenient as it's connected to 30 international and domestic destinations.
By car
The drive from Perth to Margaret River takes approximately three hours and is fairly straightforward. You can take the Kwinana Freeway out of Perth which eventually leads onto the Forrest Highway. From here, follow the directions to Bunbury, Busselton and then Margaret River.
You can also take the South Western Freeway. It takes slightly longer, but the drive is more scenic.
By public transport
Western Australia is vast and remote, and public transport is limited. However, you can take a coach from Perth to Margaret River with South West Coach Lines via Busselton. The journey takes five hours and you get a generous luggage allowance.
You can also take the Australind train with TransWA via Bunbury, which connects with a Westrail bus to Margaret River. The journey also takes about five hours.
Getting around Margaret River
If you're not traveling to Margaret River on a small group trip, you really need a car to get around. Apart from coaches and trains in and out of the Margaret River region, there's no public transport. The main township is compact and easy to walk around, but it's difficult to explore the wineries and beaches without a vehicle.
