Why you'll love this trip
  • See wild orangutans at the Semenggoh sanctuary and look for proboscis monkeys in Bako National Park. One of the last truly wild places on earth, Borneo offers rare treats for nature lovers.
  • Explore labyrinthian cave systems, some of the largest in the world, and watch as millions of bats emerge from their depths at sunset, darkening the sky like a plume of black smoke.
  • Follow in the infamous footsteps of tribal warriors on a trek through wild, dense jungle on the Headhunter’s Trail – rich with wildlife like hornbills and monkeys.
  • Unwind after days spent trekking through jungle with a stay on tranquil Labuan Island. Relax with a well-earned beer or cocktail at your beach resort accommodation.
  • Kick back in Kuching and maybe try a bowl of the local laksa – Anthony Boudain called it 'the breakfast of the Gods' – and explore the neighbourhoods full of Chinese and Malay influences.

Is this trip right for you?
  • When staying in the National Park, accommodation is multishare and can be basic. The unqiue atmosphere and wonderful location more than make up for this though.
  • This trip includes a number of wonderful long walks through forest and jungle, especially the 12 km Headhunter’s Trail, so a good level of fitness is required.
  • This trip is part of a longer itinerary. You might be joining travellers who have already spent some time together. If you have more time to explore, you might like to check out Best of Borneo.

This trip encapsulated a whole range of activities and experiences that showed off Sarawak to its full potential. We got to see orangutans, watch bats fly from caves & get stuck into the adventure staying in bush camps and trekking through rainforests. Our guide kept us well looked after too!

We have just completed Wild Sarawak tour as a family. We loved being immersed in nature and wildlife and learning about Borneo, it's people and it's history. A full on adventure for those who love to trek and experience the beauty of nature x

Adventure seekers book now. A beautiful mix of close up wildlife to trekking through the rainforest. Tour guide Nizam is passionate about giving you the full Borneo experience. Do some training for all the trekking and have supportive footwear. 10 days flew past and I loved every single moment.

Wild Sarawak was a tour that exceeded our expectations of both, Intrepid and Borneo. It was our first guided tour; our tour leader Nizam was a gem and made us feel at home while showcasing Sarawak‘s beautiful nature. We saw proboscis monkeys, Orang-Utans, bats, hornbills and many other endemic species. Walking the headhunter trail was amazing! The trip combined adventure with cultural experiences and local cuisine. We made great new friends.

A fantastic introduction to Sarawak. The itinerary packed in so much without feeling rushed: rewarding (if very hot and sticky!) hiking, stunning natural environments, loads of wildlife (getting to see orangutans was a highlight), the chance to learn about local cultures and a little bit of chill out time at the end. Kuching is a small, relaxed but buzzy city and I'd recommend arriving a bit early to have more time to explore - it felt very safe as a female solo traveller. Food everywhere was cheap and delicious and locals were very friendly. I would have no hesitation in recommending the trip.
