Before you book you should know
- This is a trekking trip, and you’ll cover up to 17 km (11 mi) with significant elevation gain/loss within each day. The terrain can be rocky and steep, and the trail can be narrow and slippery. You’ll need to be ready to trek 20 percent more than what’s stated in the itinerary details in case of trail changes due to weather and climate.
- Sturdy waterproof trekking boots with good grip, and waterproof jackets and pants are essential. Walking poles are highly recommended. You’ll spend most time in the mountains so even summer can get chilly, especially at night, so warm layers are recommended. Please refer to our packing recommendations in the Essential Trip Information for more details.
- We use local guesthouses in the villages along the trek. For a couple of nights, the facilities will be shared in the guesthouses.
- This trip doesn’t spend much time in Tbilisi or Kutaisi, so we highly recommend spending extra days to explore both cities. You may also check out our other adventures in the region if you have time to extend your travel.

Travel and visa requirements
The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation.
Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available.
Staying in local guesthouses is an excellent way to support the economy of the communities we visit and provides greater opportunities to meet with locals. All Guesthouses on this trip are clean and comfortable, but you may on occasions have to deal with a temperamental hot water supply, please be patient. Some guesthouses may have limited rooms with private facilities and you may be allocated to rooms with shared facilities instead.
