Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travelers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Our Margaret River trips begin in Perth. You can fly to Perth from over 30 international and domestic destinations.

From Perth, it’s a three-hour drive to Margaret River via the Kwinana Freeway/Forrest Highway. You can also take the inland route via the South Western Highway – it’s slower, but the drive is more scenic.

Western Australia is vast and remote, and public transport is limited. However, you could take a coach from Perth to Margaret River with South West Coach Lines via Busselton.

There's also the Australind train with TransWA via Bunbury, which connects with a Westrail bus to Margaret River. Both options take about five hours.

The easiest way to get around Margaret River is by car or on a small group tour. The main township is compact and easy to walk around, but once you venture further, you'll have difficulty getting around without a car as public transport is limited.

Margaret River is beautiful all year round. However, if you want to make the most of the region’s wineries, hiking trails and beaches, consider visiting during summer (December-February). Late spring (October/November) and early autumn (March/April) are also great times to visit (especially for hiking) as the weather is pleasant and crowds are smaller.

Winter (June- August) could be an ideal time if you like the sound of rugging up with a glass of red around the fire, or walking along the wild and windswept Cape to Cape Track. June through August is also prime time for whale sightings.

Aim for comfy casual attire that you can layer up and down depending on the weather. Think t-shirts, shorts, sports leggings, light trousers, etc. You'll also need a waterproof jacket (and more warm layers if you visit in spring, autumn or winter).

The dress code in Margaret River is generally quite relaxed, but you might also want to bring a couple of smart-casual outfits for wineries and higher-end restaurants.
