Discover the pristine islands, hidden waterfalls and laidback villages of the Andaman Sea between Penang and Phuket

Discover the spectacular west coast of Malaysia and Thailand on a new small-ship adventure cruise with Intrepid. Between the more popular holiday destinations of Penang and Phuket, there’s a medley of laidback islands and villages to explore, each with their own charms – and often far fewer travellers to contend with. Live it up in idyllic Langkawi, choose from leisure and adventure activities around Ao Nang, join in local life in laidback Ko Yao Yai, visit waterfalls tucked away in the jungle, and use the Andaman Sea as your swimming pool. Why you'll love this trip

  • See Krabi's wild and wacky limestone karst formations from the comfort of your small cruise ship

  • Wake up each morning to the clear azure waters of the Andaman Sea, which you’re free to swim in right off the back of the boat

  • Visit the iconic holiday islands of Penang, Langkawi and Phuket, but also enjoy the natural beauty of Turatao National Park and Ko Yao Yai

  • Ride the cable car to the highest point on Langkawi for a breathtaking 360 degree view of the sea and surrounding islands

  • Spend an evening at an authentic Thai homestay, enjoying home cooked specialties of the region

Is this trip right for you?

  • This is a small ship adventure cruise, which means you’ll be sailing on a yacht with 30–50 other people. The boat is spacious and comfortable, but it focuses more on the destination than onboard activities. Instead of a pool, we have the sea itself. Instead of a casino, we’ve got board games and a good book. There’s also no formal dress code to worry about. Wi-Fi is available for a small charge.

  • Our ship moves under engine power, rather than sailing, so all cabins will experience light engine noise when the ship is moving (and occasionally when we drop anchor). It’s probably worth packing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.

  • If you’re concerned about seasickness, there are seasickness tablets on-board. The ship will experience some roll and pitch in choppy conditions, however all of our ships come equipped with stabilisers to minimise movement. Most of our departures run in peak season, when the seas are calmer. Your crew will do all they can to minimise any discomfort.

  • There are no lifts (elevators) on-board our ships, so you’ll have to navigate a few steep flights of stairs. Handrails are always available.
