Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their adventure. Your leader will record your travel insurance details on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of healthcare around the world, travel insurance is an essential part of every journey.

Tipping is becoming more common in Kyrgyzstan. Rounding up the bill by 10% should be sufficient.

It’s a good idea to bring various clothing options for a trip to Kyrgyzstan. Even if the days are sunny, it gets very cold at night, especially in the Yurt camps.

Ensure you have a good pair of shoes for walking or trekking days and a wind/rainproof jacket and hat.

If you plan on visiting religious sites, pack clothing that covers shoulders, arms and knees.

Tap water isn't safe to drink in Kazakhstan. For environmental reasons, try to avoid buying bottled water. Your local leader will help you find filtered water. You may also like to bring water purification tablets.

It's also advisable to avoid ice in drinks and peel fruit and vegetables before eating.

Internet access is available in the main towns and cities across Kyrgyzstan.

Mobile phone coverage is fairly limited, even in major centres. Ensure you have global roaming activated with your carrier if you wish to use your phone.

Toilet facilities may be very basic. Expect drop toilets outside of hotels and bring your own toilet paper, as there may be none available.

In Kyrgyzstan, homosexuality is legal. However, the country is not widely accepting of LGBTQIA+ people, with same-sex marriages not recognised. Kyrgyzstan is a conservative country and any displays of affection can be considered offensive. It is strongly advised that travellers be discreet and avoid displays of affection

If you are travelling solo on an Intrepid group trip, you will share accommodation with a passenger of the same gender as per your passport information. If you don’t identify with the gender assigned on your passport, please let us know at the time of booking and we’ll arrange the rooming configuration accordingly. A single supplement is available on some tours for travellers who do not wish to share a room.
