Catapulted into the mainstream after the release of a hugely popular movie of the same name, Madagascar is fast becoming one of Africa’s top travel destinations. And for good reason: this gem of an island is home to an incredibly diverse ecosystem made up of pristine beaches, waterfalls, grassy plains, imposing volcanoes and impressive landscapes.
The island's biodiversity is broad and unique, offering wildlife experiences to rival safaris on the mainland. Laced with historic towns that reflect European, African or Eastern culture, Madagascar is a melting pot of life waiting to be discovered.

Madagascar Baobabs & Beyond

This is my 20 something Intrepid Travels adventure. I love this style of travel - small groups of like-minded people, who enjoy meeting like-minded travelers, who are flexible to take on new ideas, and have open minds to adventure travel. This trip is not for everyone, especially if you are vegan (its just not a thing in Madagascar) and there are some long travel days due to the very poor road conditions.

Amazing tour, Patrick was the best tour guide ever! Saw some amazing wildlife and enjoyed learning about the Malagasy culture. May be some long travel days but it’s worth it.

Fast paced tour with a fair bit of driving but it is needed to see the national parks. We saw 15 lemur species, chameleons, frogs and insects. The Malagasy people are very resourceful and super friendly, what surprised me was how courteous they are on the roads. The roads are terrible, take so long to get anywhere because of the potholes. Hotels we stayed at were pretty good, sometimes the bathrooms were iffy, comfy beds, ample food plus always a cold beer. We had the most wonderful, attentive, and knowledgeable guide Patrick. I hope Intrepid value him as much as we did. Hikes down into gorges are hard on the knees, so be prepared. Tipping is big here, more than advised by Intrepid. Madagascar is a country rich in culture with smiling people, who have little to nothing particularly the village people. Grateful to have been able to visit this amazing country; experience the culture, taste the food and support the Malagasy people by spending money in their country.
