Learn about First Nations cultures
The Australian Outback holds thousands of years of human history. Learn about the many cultures, practices, stories and peoples of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through guided experiences. Be welcomed to Country in a traditional Smoking Ceremony, explore limestone caves filled with Aboriginal rock art or take a medicinal bush walk with a local First Nations Elder.
Explore the Bungles Bungles
Rising from the ground in Purnululu National Park are the Bungle Bungles. These striped and dome-shaped rocks spread through the site, forming a maze of giant sandstone towers. A culturally significant site to the Karjaganujaru and Gija peoples, a visit to the Bungle Bungles is best done with guided walks to incredible spots like Echidna Chasm and Cathedral Gorge. Or, for an alternative view, a helicopter ride to see it all from above.
Discover Uluru
The crowning orange-hued jewel of the Outback is, of course, Uluru. This impressively large rock is a geological and spiritual site well worth a visit to the Red Centre. Take a stroll along the base with an Anangu guide and learn about this landmark’s stories and its significance to the local Anangu people. With an early wake-up and late evening visit, you’ll also get to see the full range of its colour-changing magic.
Explore Kakadu National Park
Thundering falls, lazing crocs and ancient rock art are all sites to be found in the wide expanse of Kakadu National Park. Take to the water on a First Nations-owned boat tour for a birdwatching and crocodile-spotting adventure. You’ll also have plenty of time to explore Kakadu’s famous natural rock art galleries, featuring artwork that’s up to 20,000 years old! Keep an eye out for scenes of wildlife and Creation Stories.
