Things to do in the Golden Triangle

Lone traveller revelling in the beauty of Taj Mahal at sunrise

Marvel at the spectacle of the Taj Mahal

Whether you take in the iconic structure’s intricate details as the sun rises or witness the sun’s setting colours reflect off its marble surfaces, visiting the Taj Mahal is guaranteed to be one of life’s most magical travel experiences. Originally built as a tomb for Emperor Shah Jahan’s second wife, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed site is now the perfect example of magnificent Mughal architecture and symbolizes the dynamic between love and loss.

Wander around the historic Amber Fort

India’s Golden Triangle circuit isn’t short on mesmerising monuments to marvel at, but the extravagantly spectacular Amber Fort is something else entirely. Affectionately known as the jewel of Jaipur, this hillside masterpiece is not only a prime example of authentic Rajput architecture but is also home to beautiful murals, arches, and rooms such as the breathtaking Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors) – a space that’s completely covered in mosaic-like coloured glass.

A table full of traditional Indian dishes

Sit down to a delicious homecooked dinner in Jaipur

Learn about India’s tantalizing cuisine and the day-to-day life of its people at the same time by sitting down to a homecooked meal, prepared for you by a local family in Jaipur. Whether you crave the tomato-y, garlic-y taste of Rogan Josh or want to feel like a local by snacking on vada pav (a deep-fried potato dumpling in a bun), this immersive experience is guaranteed to be one of your favourites.

The impressive structure of Jama Masjid in Delhi against a clear, blue sky

Take in the sights of Old Delhi on a leader-led walk

The beautiful streets of Old Delhi can be a bit chaotic and confusing, especially if you don’t know where you’re going, but take the hassle out of exploring by embarking on a journey through the narrow alleyways and twisting avenues on a leader-led walk. Discover the secret gems of this captivating city, including stopping by Delhi’s oldest mosque, and learn about its fascinating past with your group.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises). However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Made up of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, the Golden Triangle is named for the triangular shape made by the locations of the three cities.

As a general rule, India is a pretty safe country to travel to as long as you keep several things in mind such as sticking to well-lit and populated areas at nighttime, travelling in groups to unfamiliar places, and keeping an eye on any personal belongings at all times. The regions/cities visited as part of the Golden Triangle circuit aren't experiencing any political or civil unrest so as long as you heed the above recommendations, you shouldn't come into any trouble.

As Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur are relatively close, the primary mode of transportation between the destinations is a private vehicle so you can travel in comfort and get to know your fellow group members along the way.

Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their tour. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

For more information on insurance, please go to: Travel Insurance

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.
