How to Get to Barossa Valley | Intrepid Travel UK

Barossa Valley is located 70 kilometres north-east of Adelaide, South Australia. Once you arrive, it’s easy to get around as the region is compact and it's only a short drive between the towns and villages.

By air

There are daily flights to Adelaide from most Australian cities including Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Darwin. You can also fly direct from several international destinations including Auckland, Doha and Kuala Lumpur. From Adelaide Airport, you can transfer to a local bus or train, or jump in a taxi to Barossa Valley.

By car

It takes about one hour to drive to Barossa Valley from Adelaide. There are a few driving routes:

Northern Connector to Tanunda - 1 hour
Main North Road to Tanunda and Lyndoch - about 1.5 hours
North East Road through Chain of Ponds to Elliamston and Tanunda - 1.5 hours (the most scenic route)

By public transport

You can take the Metro train from Adelaide Railway Station to Gawler Central. From Gawler, hop on the 810 bus to Nuriootpa via Lyndoch and Tanunda. Bus transfers from Gawler aren’t super frequent, so make sure you check the schedule before your trip.

By bike

Cycling is an amazing way to see the beauty of wine country. The Barossa Trail is a 40-kilometre traffic-free path that cuts through the heart of the region, showcasing some of the best wineries, cellar doors and historic attractions. It's also a cheaper and more eco-friendly way to get around.
