Italy sailing cruises
Looking for the best view of the Italian coast?
Pastel-coloured villages, umbrella-lined beaches and a hidden cove or two await on an Italian sailing trip. Leave the roads behind to drift between island ports and mainland marinas, ending each day with a sunset over the sea. On one side of the Tyrrhenian, head ashore to the Amalfi Coast to sip locally made limoncello in Sorrento, see the ruins at Pompeii or paddle into the waters of Capri’s Blue Grotto. On the other, cruise the waves between Sardinia and Corsica, stopping to snorkel, cycle and sightsee around the islands. All aboard – next stop la dolce vita.
Italy sailing highlights
Take a peak at the Blue Grotto
Perhaps the Isle of Capri’s most alluring attraction is the iridescent Blue Grotto (or ‘Grotta Azzurra’ to the locals). When sunlight passes through this natural underwater cavity, it creates a stunning blue reflection that illuminates the cavern.
Onshore excursions in Ischia
Sitting in the Gulf of Naples, the island of Ischia is essential for any sailing adventure in Italy. With its rich volcanic past, ocean hot springs, hiking trails, great beaches and picturesque views of the ancient Aragonese Castle, there are so many reasons to head ashore.
Take it slow in La Maddalena
After days spent enjoying the best of the Tyrrhenian Sea, enjoy the laidback life in the town of La Maddalena. Cycle between beaches, search for secluded coves, visit ancient ruins, dine the Sardinian way or kick back on your boat and take in the heritage buildings.
Enjoy nature at Caprera
This lesser-known locale combines everything to love about island life: bright blue water, white sand beaches, reefs for snorkelling and a handful of wildlife that live in the protected nature reserve. History buffs will also get their fill as the island used to be home to Italian General Giuseppe Garibaldi.
