Itinerary
Welcome to Tasmania! Your adventure begins in Hobart (or nipaluna in the language of the muwinina and palawa peoples, the Traditional Owners of the land on which Hobart is now located). You’ll have a welcome meeting at 11 am this morning, then you’ll head to Port Arthur (approx 1.5 hours) to visit this Historic Site – a former convict settlement with a horrific past where you’ll learn about the history of this former penal colony with an audio experience and a short boat cruise. After, check out Remarkable Cave and get a glimpse of the stunning beach scenery. Head to your waterside accommodation at Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula then join your group for a delicious, included dinner tonight and get to know each other a little better.

Please be on time today and checked out of any accommodation already, as you’ll head out towards the Tasman Peninsula straight after your welcome meeting. Find more details in the ‘Joining Point Instructions’ section of your Essential Trip Information. Spending an extra night in Hobart before your trip starts is highly recommended.
Your travel time today will be approximately 2 hours.
The walk to Remarkable Cave is Grade 3 due to the 115 steps down (and back up) to the cave. At certain times of year, the waves rush through the tunnel creating a thrilling spectacle for those lucky enough to witness it. Be prepared to get a little wet!
This morning after breakfast, drive down the beautiful Tasman Peninsula, passing through the narrow sliver of Eaglehawk Neck. Stop at Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen and the Tessellated Pavement to view the unusual rock formations. Head back to Hobart, where the vibrant Salamanca Markets await, ready to tempt you with everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts. Then, head out for a bush tucker experience with NITA Education – a local First Nations organisation working to inspire connection to their 50,000-year-old culture. Watch a Welcome to Country ceremony, then try some bush tucker and listen to their stories. Tonight, maybe head out with your group for dinner at one of the popular restaurants near the waterfront.

Your travel time today will be approximately 2 hours.
Both Tasman Arch & Devil's Kitchen can be seen from the carpark, as well as from other viewpoints accessible on a 1km loop walk. The Tesselated Pavement viewpoint is only a few minutes walk from the carpark, and a few minutes further to access the beach via stairs.
Please be aware that First Nations people have complex community obligations, and at times today's experience may be cancelled at late notice due to cultural commitments.
Please note that from April to September 2026 we won’t be able to visit Tasman Arch & Devil’s Kitchen, due to construction works at the site. Instead, your leader will take you to alternative lookouts and walks in the area. The Tessellated Pavement is not affected, and we will visit that site.
Today, you’ll drive to the top of kunanyi / Mount Wellington to take in some magnificent views over the city and its surrounding mountains, forests and waterways. Then, drive into the Hartz Mountains wilderness, where you'll explore the remote and rugged place shaped by ancient glaciers on a few short walks. Next, head to Geeveston – a small township known for its forestry heritage, then continue up the Huon Valley and visit a cidery, where you’ll learn about the history of local apple farming in the valley, maybe with a few cider samples from the fourth-generation orchard (optional). Return to Hobart for your final night together.

The kunanyi / Mount Wellington scenic drive this morning is weather-dependent.
Your leader will choose the most appropriate short walks in Hartz Mountains National Park today based on the weather and your group. These may include the Lake Osborne (Grade 2, 2km return/45-60 min), Arve Falls (Grade 2, 1km return/20 min) or Waratah Lookout (Grade 1, 300m/5 min) walks.
This morning you’ll hop on the ferry over to Bruny Island – one of the most gorgeous spots in Tassie! Climb 279 steps to Truganini Lookout at The Neck for sweeping views, Indigenous history and wildlife spotting. Explore South Bruny National Park, where the Cape Bruny Lighthouse perches high above the wild waves of the Southern Ocean. Stop in at a few local shops for tastings of locally sourced products such as oysters, honey, cheese and beer. Then, head back to Hobart where your trip will come to an end.

Before you book you should know
- This trip involves plenty of walking over varied terrain and is best suited to travellers with good fitness and mobility. Several leader-led walks are included on a daily basis, allowing you to get among nature. This is the best way to experience Tasmania, so please make sure you bring sturdy, comfortable walking shoes and comfortable clothing. Most walks are relatively short and easy although there are some more challenging options. However, joining a walk is always up to you.
- Temperatures can fluctuate in Tasmania. It's important to prepare – pack suitable clothing for hot, cold, dry and wet weather, just in case.

START & END TIMES
The trip starts in Hobart with a Welcome Meeting at 11 am on Day 1 at our joining point hotel. The trip finishes back in Hobart on Day 4 at our finish point hotel around 5:30 pm. Accommodation is not included on this day but can be booked on request.

CLIMATE
Temperatures can fluctuate in Tasmania, and can be quite cold at at night and at higher altitudes, with potential snowfall especially at the start or end of the season. It's important to prepare – please familiarise yourself with the climate to expect at the time of year you are planning to travel, and pack suitable clothing for hot, cold, dry and wet weather, just in case.

The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation.
Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available.

From Hobart Airport (airport code HBA), you can either take the twice-hourly Skybus transfer to stop 1 (ask your driver to announce your stop - from here it's a 10 minute walk to your hotel), or you can take a taxi or Uber from the airport directly to the hotel in approximately 25 to 30 minutes (depending on traffic).
