Getting around Brisbane is relatively easy, especially if you're staying in Brisbane's city centre as most landmarks and tourist spots are within walking distance of each other. If you wanted to travel outside of the CBD, there are numerous transportation options available including public transport as well as hiring a car and other rideshare options. If walking is not really your thing but you still like the idea of taking in Brisbane's beautiful scenery, then you can always rent a bike through a number of different bike hire companies and explore some of the trails and bikeways around the CBD.Â
Walking and cycling in Brisbane
A bit of fresh air never hurt anyone and Brisbane has a lot of different trails to walk and places to visit that are within walking distance of each other. Also, Brisbane's city is quite flat so you won't have to walk up and down hills while getting from place to place.Â
Alternatively, riding a bike around Brisbane is also a good idea if you want to take in the scenery with ease. There are a number of bike hire companies located in the CBD for ultimate convenience, offering easy pick-up and drop-off options for those who are eager to get cycling.Â
Make sure you're wearing sunscreen whenever you undertake an outdoor activity like walking or cycling (even if the sun isn't shining) to help protect you from the sun's harmful UV rays.Â
Public transport in Brisbane
There are a lot of ways to move around Brisbane on public transport from catching a train to riding a ferry. Brisbane's public transport scheme works with the TransLink go card, giving you easy access to various systems including bus, ferry, and rail services operating across south-east Queensland. To buy one of these go cards, simply make your way to any attended Queensland rail stations, 7-Elevens, or Night Owl stores, or purchase a card online, and top up the balance in the same way you would top up a prepaid mobile phone.Â
However, there are free public transportation options too! You can catch a bus for free if you're located in the CBD and wish to travel to another inner-city location. Bus services through the City Loop and Spring Hill regions are available every 10 minutes and stop at all the major landmarks and destinations between 7 am - 6 pm on weekdays.Â
There's also a free CityHopper ferry service that runs between Brisbane's inner-city precincts, travelling along the river from North Quay all the way to Sydney Street in New Farm.
