Why you'll love this trip
  • Combine the best cycling, hiking and kayaking experiences that Otago has to offer from one central base in stunning Wanaka.
  • Spend a morning hiking to the dramatic hanging glaciers beneath the towering Rob Roy Peak then kick back at a local winery where you’ll meet the winemaker and learn the local craft.
  • Hike to a lake within an island in a lake on an island, looking out for rare birds and insects along the way, then cool off with a swim in crystal clear waters.
  • Cycle a spectacular brand-new track along man-made wooden trails secured to the bottom of sheer rock faces – arguably the best bit of cycling trail in Otago!
  • Experience the beauty of Lake Wanaka from a different perspective as you take a guided kayaking tour across its waters, surrounded by unforgettable mountain views.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, World Bicycle Relief. Donations provide school kids, health workers, and farmers in far-out areas with bicycles that provide access to education, healthcare, and income.

I would highly recommend this Wānaka active trip. This is a perfect trip for a first time solo or for any single traveler. I loved every minute of this trip. Our guide Grant Kitto, was amazing. He really made this trip so much fun and nothing at all was a problem. He got involved in all our extra activities and excitement. He recommended so many things during the trip, so we could experience as much as possible. This was the best trip and I can’t wait to get back to NZ.

This was the perfect little tour for my first "solo" trip. Grant, our tour guide made everyone feel comfortable, he was very acknowledgeable and knew how to crack a joke to get everyone laughing. Loved the mixture of activities and ended the trip with new found friends. I would highly recommend this trip to everyone.

I was lucky to be part of small group, me and 2 ladies (hey Ivy & Georgia). Intrepid host Grant was incredible. He had very good knowledge of nature and New Zealand. He also had excellent connections which he used to make our trip better. He for example arranged paraflight to ladies with his connections, which wasn't part of the trip. He certainly didn't watch his clock, if someone of us wanted to do something extra in the end of day he would arrange it. Our wellbeing was important to him. To top of that he has great personality & great sense of humour.

Griff was an amazing tour leader! He was able to accommodate everyone in our group and make everyone feel comfortable. Some activities were a little more intense than others; but we all felt safe with Griff leading the way. He knew so much about the Queenstown/Wanaka area, it's flora and fauna and history. The highlight for me was the Dunstan bike trail - a challenging ride with spectacular views the entire way! The accommodation was comfortable and food was great - especially the included breakfasts!
