Our Asian sailing trips follow a simple recipe. Start with a generous scoop of aquamarine water and secret strips of golden sand (remember to remove all traces of tourist crowds). Throw in a handful of rare corals and tropical fish, then add a dash of nautical navigation. Leave to simmer while you nap and work on that Thailand tan, then take off the heat and slow it right down with a guided trek to some jungle-covered ruins. Serve with a sizzling stir-fry courtesy of your onboard chef and a jaw-dropping island sunset for good measure. Want to try the recipe for yourself? We’ve got the perfect sailing tour for you…

Highlights of Asia sailing
Explore the caves of Ko Hong
Visited on our Phuket Sailing Adventure, Ko Hong is regarded by those in the know as the most beautiful island on the Andaman Coast. And that’s a big call. Most tourists need to organise day trips from Krabi to visit Ko Hong’s limestone cave system and secluded beaches, but not you. Pull up the catamaran and go for a swim right off the deck, or wander ashore and start exploring. It's that simple.Â
Take in a sunset with your crew
There's nothing better than cracking a cold one, pulling up a chair on the deck at the back of the boat and sitting down to watch the sky turn from a brilliant blue to the oranges and pinks of a perfect sunset - except maybe doing it with your newly found friends. Swap stories and laugh over the new memories you've made with travellers all wanting the same unforgettable experience as you.Â
Â
Spend some time on Koh Phi Phi Island
There's no better way to start or finish your Thailand sailing adventure than by exploring one of the country's most famous places - Koh Phi Phi. Whether you want to sink your toes into the white sand, satisfy your cravings with a local meal, go for a dip in the turquoise waters or simply stare out at the magnificent limestone cliffs that dot the landscape, this mesmerizing island is all yours to enjoy.Â
Tuck into traditional Thai cuisine onboard
Once you set sail on your Thailand adventure, you don't have to worry about a thing - and we mean it. Whether you're craving some stir-fried noodles or your tastebuds are dying to try a spicy curry, each boat has a professional chef onboard that'll whip up some breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for you. All you have to do is turn up with an appetite for some traditional Thai food and a healthy sense of adventure.Â
Best time to sail in ThailandÂ
Thailand is very close to the equator but outside the cyclone zone of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, which means calm waters and idyllic sailing almost all year round. The dry season (November to April) is generally the best choice: there’s less chance of monsoonal rain and the balmy 30-degree days make for some wonderfully refreshing swims off the back of the boat. During the wet season (May to October), winds are better for sailing, but heavy rains can often blow in unpredictably.Â

FAQs
Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards
From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises). However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.
Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.
When cruising the waters of the Andaman Sea, a twin-hulled catamaran is our vessel of choice. The size of the yacht may vary depending on the group, but the boat will usually have four twin-share cabins, 1-4 shared bathrooms, hot water showers, and flushable toilets. Most meals, including lunches and dinners, are included on our Asia sailing trips, prepared by our resident chef on board. Life on the boat is designed to be flexible: take a turn as skipper or kick back with a mai tai and an island sunset – it’s up to you.
You don’t have to lift a finger if you don’t want to (unless you need to turn the page of your novel or eat a grape). But if you’d like to learn the ropes, that’s fine too. Your expert skipper can teach you everything you’d like to know – from tying knots to unfurling the sails.
There’s about a 30/70 split between land-based and water-based activities on our Asia sailing trips. However, much of this depends on the weather conditions. There are usually at least a few hours each day spent exploring ports, trekking the surrounding areas or relaxing on beaches. Of course, depending on location, there will always be the chance to wine and dine at the local hot spots.Â
Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveller. Entry requirements can change at any time, so it's important that you check for the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website of the country or countries you’re visiting for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality. Check the Essential Trip Information section of the itinerary for more information.Â
Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months after your arrival date in Thailand and should have a few blank pages left for a new stamp.
No vaccines are required in order to enter Thailand but some are recommended for protection against disease. Visit your doctor or travel clinic for advice and make sure to schedule vaccinations 4-6 weeks before your departure date, as some require time to become effective.
Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.
