Intrepid's Dr Susanne Etti named in BBC 100 Women 2023

NOVEMBER 2023

Dr Susanne Etti, Intrepid Travel’s Global Environmental Impact Manager, has been named in BBC 100 Women – the annual list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world.

As well as globally-recognised names such as former US First Lady Michelle Obama and human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, this year’s list highlights those who have been working to help their communities tackle climate change and adapt to its impact.

Dr Etti has been selected as one of those ‘climate pioneers’, named ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28.

One of the travel and tourism industry’s only climate scientists, Dr Etti is passionate about leading the industry towards a more sustainable future.

Her work as the Global Environmental Impact Manager at Intrepid Travel, the B Corp certified small group adventure travel company, has led the company to achieve industry-first milestones, such as becoming the first tour operator with verified science-based carbon reduction targets.

She is the author of a 10-step guide to decarbonising your travel business and the Carbon Measurement Blueprint for Tour Operators, part of her ongoing commitment to lead the travel industry towards a more regenerative, healthy, inclusive and sustainable 1.5-degree future.

She said: “I am surprised and honoured to be named among the outstanding women on BBC’s 100 Women list.

“The climate crisis is a complex and urgent global challenge which requires collective efforts and innovation across industries, governments, businesses, and communities. I believe that with continued dedication and radical collaboration we can mitigate the impact of climate change and build a more sustainable and equitable future.”
