There are a few ways you can get to the Great Ocean Road; via the ferry between Queenscliff and Sorrento or by driving from Melbourne to its starting point just outside of Torquay (about an hour and 15 minute drive). 

There's no single 'best' time to visit the Great Ocean Road but there's a better chance of it being sunny on a summer's day. However, that's when the road is at its busiest. If you want to escape the crowds, try driving the route in either spring or autumn. While you can't guarantee the skies will be clear, it still promises some of the best scenery you've ever seen. 

Packing for the Great Ocean Road largely depends on the weather during your visit as Victoria can experience differing conditions depending on the season. In winter, make sure to pack an umbrella, waterproof shoes and other waterproof clothing items, a raincoat and a beanie to stay dry, warm and comfortable during your visit. However, if you're travelling during the summer, you should pack lightweight, breathable clothing (think linen and cotton), sunscreen, sandals and a wide-brimmed hat. 

Mobile coverage is excellent along the Great Ocean Road, so you shouldn't have any problems getting a signal, connecting to Wi-Fi or sending/receiving a message.
