Escape to the top end of Australia with these tours from Broome.Â
This remote city is the capital of the sparsely populated, ruggedly beautiful Kimberley region, a place to commune with nature and learn about the history and traditions of the oldest culture on earth. Strike out through the gorges and creeks of this vast region to Darwin or down to Perth, making your way through national parks to sleep in outback cattle stations, dip into watering holes, and listen to outback yarns over a beer. Australia doesn't get much better than this.Â

Highlights of our tours from BroomeÂ

Walk the pristine beaches of Broome
Holidays that are all go, go, go can be fun but sometimes you just need to relax every once in a while. Luckily for you, Broome is one of the best places to do it. Packed with plenty of beaches to walk along or swim in, Broome promises ultimate restoration and unforgettable scenery. From the iconic Cable Beach with its camel rides to Reddel Beach with its mini red cliffs, bask in the Western Australian sun while recharging for the next leg of your journey.Â

Wander beneath the Bungle Bungles
Looking like something out of another world, the orange and black striped rock formations known as the Bungle Bungles won’t hesitate to take your breath away. Boasting World Heritage status and home to culturally significant sites, these uniquely shaped wonders are 350 million years in the making and walking around them will not only have you feeling a deep connection to land, but also a greater appreciation for the natural world around you.Â

Explore the magnificent Shark Bay region
Despite its terrifying name, this Western Australian treasure is one destination you’re definitely going to want to explore (and we can almost promise there won’t be a shark in sight). With waters full of playful marine animals, beaches made entirely from shells, national parks boasting fascinating geological features, and coastlines that provide the perfect sunset backdrop, you might never want to leave.Â

Take a drive along the Dampier Peninsula
You might not have heard about the Dampier Peninsula (one of the untouched and underrated Western Australia destinations) but rest assured, it’s been waiting for your arrival. Beloved for its epic scenery of red rock cliffs and rich, earthy terrain and for its fascinating history and First Nations cultures, this dramatic landscape – from Beagle Bay to Cygnet Bay – will captivate your heart (and camera roll).Â

Take in the beautiful scenery of Lake Argyle
In Australia, there are big expanses of water and then there’s Lake Argyle. Boasting a size that’s 18 times larger than the Sydney Harbour, this stunning manmade lake is truly a sight to behold with its mirror-like surface and surrounding mountain ranges. Whether you want to marvel at its sheer size from the comfort of an infinity pool or cruise on its waters, this lake deserves to be admired.Â

Adventure through Karijini National Park
It’s easy to get lost in the magic of Karijini National Park with unspoiled treasures of natural beauty everywhere you look. Whether you’re wandering past the towering red rock walls of Kalamina Gorge, taking in the beauty of Joffre Falls, or marvelling at how you managed to climb 10km to the summit of Mt Bruce, you’ll be met with stunning views you won’t want to stop taking photos of. Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.
There are several ways to get to Western Australia including flying, catching public transport, and self-driving, with the most time-efficient one being different depending on where you're travelling from. There are over 10 public airports you can fly into in Western Australia but the most popular one is Perth Airport. From there, it's easy to organise transportation to your final destination of either Margaret River or further inland.Â
There's no one 'best time' to visit Western Australia as each season promises unique activities and breathtaking scenery. However, the most popular time to visit is during the summer season (December, January, and February) as it coincides with Australia's school holidays and the weather is warm and sunny. If you're wanting a holiday without the crowds, the months of March-May and September-October are the best times to visit as the weather is still reasonably warm and enjoyable, especially if you're spending long periods of time outside.Â
Our Western Australian tours are all about action and adventure so there is no need to bring any fancy clothes. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are a must, even in winter, as the sun reflects off the water and the white sand of the Margaret River region and Ningaloo Reef. Bring a good pair of walking shoes so you can explore the national parks comfortably. A light jumper is useful if you are going to be out on the water for lengthy periods of time.Â
Western Australia is full of stunning landscapes and special natural attractions so it's hard to fit them all into one list but we'll give it a go. Here are our picks on the best places to visit in Western Australia:Â
- Esperance
- AlbanyÂ
- BroomeÂ
- Shark BayÂ
- Rottnest Island
- The Bungle BunglesÂ
- Ningaloo Reef
There are plenty of animals to spot during your travels around Western Australia including 141 of Australia's 207 mammal species (25 of which are only found in WA), around 400 reptile species, and roughly 1,600 marine species. Tick them off the list below as you go:Â
- QuokkasÂ
- KangaroosÂ
- Bottlenose dolphins
- Echidnas
- Whale sharks
- Koalas
- Australian sea lions
Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.
