Scotland Tours & Vacations

Misty highlands, sparkling lochs and rolling hills – there is a reason Scotland is known for its natural beauty.

But it’s not all just deserted moors and moss-covered forests (although there are plenty of those too!), Scotland’s rich history and culture are also a big drawcard. From exploring the medieval city of Edinburgh, to the lively fun of a traditional pub where many a wee whisky can be enjoyed, there are plenty of opportunities to experience the hospitality of the local Scots beyond the clichés of kilts and bagpipes. Discovering areas like the enchanting Scottish Highlands, the modern hub of Glasgow and the wilderness of the Isle of Skye, all with the inside knowledge of a local leader is an entirely unique experience.

Guide is excellent, tour Company not so much. Poorly organized & fitness rating is too low… 4/5 rating is more like it

Intrepid holidays are eco friendly and allow you to experience a community as the locals would. It us a great blend of activities and your own time to explore.

Highlights of Scotland

Mariel · Traveled August 2024
My second Intrepid trip. I mostly signed on for this one for nature and scenery vs. history, but enjoyed that both were included. I also appreciated a bit of time in the cities, but I booked extra days separately at either end to actually see Glasgow and Edinburgh for myself (I'd consider this a must-do for anyone traveling to Scotland for the first time). Our tour leader, Lara, was excellent, and extremely adept at dealing with some of the impromptu scheduling difficulties due to our itinerary operating at a different schedule than the typical one (read: different starting day of the week = some train/taxi issues). She also gave us our space, and we did indeed have many free afternoons and evenings as the itinerary suggests. I like not being hand-held through every single element of every day-- the balance of scheduled activities and free time was very nice. Also- please pack rain gear. Why would you not pack rain gear for Scotland? It's going to rain.

Scotland's Orkney Islands

Joanna · Traveled August 2024
The Orkney Islands are rugged and beautiful and this trip allowed us to soak in a lot of its amazing history from the Neolithic to the Norse Earls to WWII. I recommend plenty of warm and waterproof clothing and layers for the rapidly changing weather!
