Highlights of our 2 week Australian tours

The bubbling water of Mossman Gorge as it glides of rocks.

Discover Cairns

So much more than a starting point for an adventure to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns is quickly becoming a tourist hot spot in its own right thanks to its tropical weather, proximity to bucket-list islands, epic landscapes, and fascinating wildlife. You’ll never run out of fun things to do with exploring Mossman Gorge, walking through Cape Tribulation, and wandering through the Atherton Tablelands are all highlights of this extraordinary region.

The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge from the water at sunset.

Stop in at Sydney

Yes, Sydney has the iconic Opera House and the distinctive Harbour Bridge, but it also has incredible shopping districts you could easily spend hours in and beaches that boast golden sand and sparkling water. Add on the world-class restaurants populating trendy neighbourhoods such as Surrey Hills and Newtown and the many gardens that make the city feel as if it’s right in the middle of nature itself, this is one spot you simply don’t want to miss.

Aerial view of the Champagne pools and surrounding scenery on Fraser Island.

Explore Fraser Island (K’gari)

If it’s a perfect island adventure you’re after then look no further than the stunning and spectacularly scenic Fraser Island. Boasting the title of Queensland’s largest sand island, this breathtaking destination is popular for its natural beauty and captivating wildlife. From wandering through lush rainforests and playing on golden sand dunes to spotting humpback whales as they break through the water’s surface, you’ll never be bored on this World Heritage-listed island.

A sailing boat on the waters of the Whitsunday islands.

Wander around Airlie Beach

If Fraser Island doesn’t tickle your fancy, then chances are Airlie Beach – a tropical tourist town known for its adventures, attractions, and activities - will do the trick. Whether you want to hire a sailing boat and spend a day on the water, head out on a scenic flight above the Coral Sea, or zip over the waves on a jet ski, you’ll never get bored in this perfect piece of paradise. For the full experience, make sure you visit Whitehaven Beach. You won’t be disappointed.

Internet access is widely available in Australian cities, towns and tourist hubs. Please note that Wi-Fi and internet access will be limited or unavailable in the outback and remote areas.

Drinking water from taps in Australia is considered safe, unless otherwise marked. For environmental reasons, try to use a refillable water bottle rather than buying bottled water in single-use bottles.

Absolutely. Everyone travelling with Intrepid is required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

Australians are not required to be covered for hospital care due to being covered by Medicare. However we strongly recommend that Australians have a domestic travel insurance policy that covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. It is also strongly advisable that Australians have current ambulance cover in the case of an emergency evacuation or incidents requiring ambulance transportation.

For more information on insurance, please go to our Travel Insurance hub.

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. However, we’re always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.
