Our long trips start at 20 days and increase to over 60. We have a range of trips that can take you through multiple countries or that cover a single country

Intrepid was created on the premise of long travel when our two founders - Darrell and Manch - set off across Africa with a bunch of friends and no plans to come home anytime soon.

It didn't take them long to discover that when you stay a little longer in a destination, you can make the most of every mile and really immerse yourself in the heart and soul of a place and its people.

Whether it be three weeks, one month or even two months, spending that little bit longer means you’re sure to return with a hearty appreciation and thorough understanding of a destination.

Long trips work just like any other Intrepid trip; think small groups, local leaders, on-ground support and responsible travel choices. All the planning and day-to-day is taken care of by us, leaving you with the best part: the fun.

Where we can, we’ve opted for public transport over private transfers and partnered with the local communities.

On a long haul trip where you’ll be responsible for carrying your own bags, lighter is better. Most Intrepid travellers opt for a backpack, and when space is at a premium, prioritise items that serve multiple purposes.

Your local leader can help you organise a laundromat visit mid-trip, and many hotels offer convenient laundry services, allowing you to cut down on the amount of clothing you’ll need.

Travel documents, insurance and prescriptions are a must, a power bank, a good book and a pair of headphones or earplugs are nice to have.

Being of longer duration, it’s also likely you may have more than one local leader throughout the trip.

Different to our shorter trips, you may not have the same group the entire time, as travellers may join in for certain legs of the journey. But to us, that just means more people to share the joys of travel with.

When a long trip is made up of two or more shorter trips, this will be noted in the Essential Trip Information section of your itinerary. If your roommate is only on one leg of the journey, you will be paired with a new traveller when the second or third leg begins.

Visas are the responsibility of each individual traveller. You can find information on visa and entry requirements in the visa section of your Essential Trip Information.

Although it’s your responsibility to make sure you have everything you need to travel to and from your destination, our local leaders are on hand to facilitate border crossings and any on-ground intricacies that may arise.
