The best part? You get to explore the park in vintage 1930s style aboard a bus with a roll-back top and settle down for a picnic lunch among the trees.

The impressive scenery of the towering cliff faces called the Gates of the Mountains in Montana

Marvel at the Gates of the Mountains

Picture this; you’re relaxing onboard a boat cruising the Missouri River’s gentle waters. You’re marvelling at the limestone cliffs guarding the river’s edge. You’re chatting to your group mates and taking photos your friends back at home will be jealous of. Your boat approaches a set of towering stone walls that seem to open before you. You’ve made to the Gates of the Mountains, a place of untouched, natural beauty so magical you’ll never want to leave.

The best way to get to Montana depends on where you're travelling from, but visitors to the state either drive (if you're visiting from a neighbouring state) or catch a flight if you're visiting from the other side of the country or from overseas. Driving will often take longer but allows you greater flexibility to stop and soak in Montana's natural beauty along the way. It's also easily accessible via the state's three major interstates. If you're keen on flying, there are 5 international airports in various cities in Montana including airports in Billings, Missoula and the state's capital Helena. These airports offer plenty of both international and domestic flights with airlines such as American Airlines, Delta and United.

There really is no best time to visit Montana as there's plenty to do in each season. However, the most popular time to visit the outdoorsy state is during summer when the temperatures are warm without being too uncomfortable (average temp in the mid 20°Cs). But this also means increased accommodation and activity prices and larger crowds in cities and national parks.
