United Kingdom tours in May 2025

May's a bloomin' good time to visit the UK

In May, places like the Cairngorms, the Isle of Skye and Cornwall are stunning – come rain or shine. Forests, gardens and wildflowers are thriving thanks to early spring rains, adorable lambs begin to frolic around the fields, and locals have a spring in their step now that summer's just around the corner. Get active and uncover Roman history along Hadrian's Wall, enjoy salty walks and yoga (and Cornish pasties aplenty!) on the Cornish coast, or be enchanted by Scotland's lochs, castles and remote islands.

Scotland's Orkney Islands

A fantastic experience. The best small group tour we have done. Lawrence made all of us welcome on the first day and spent time with all of us getting to know our interests and what we were expecting from the tour. His gentle humour was a delight as was his professionalism. The natural beauty and history of Orkney were enhanced by Lawrence's depth of knowledge.

Walk Hadrian's Wall Highlights

We had a great time on this trip. Went with my daughter and even when the rain conspired against us our guide Kerry kept things together and positive. It exceeded our expectations. The modified itinerary with slightly less walking along the road sections and more time at Vindolanda and the Roman town outside Corbridge or the choice to stay and explore Hexham instead of Corbridge were spot on. Gave some flexibility to everyone and a good mix of activities. One for the books!

Walk Hadrian's Wall Highlights

Couldn't have asked for a better guide than Kerry for this tour. Really helped that the wall and the surrounding towns were essentially her "backyard" so she was able to add in local colo(u)r both in relation to the Roman history as well as English, Scottish, and specific town backgrounds spanning about 2000 years.

Highlights of Scotland

Too many wonderful things to see and not enough time to see them all! Isle of Skye was my favorite part of this trip. Pack light--there are so many hills and stairs in Scotland! Read the itinerary - take it literally! You don’t go into any castles, just exterior photos.

Highlights of Scotland

Linda · Traveled May 2023
I wish I could rate this highly because Scotland is an amazing country and the people I traveled with were so friendly. The overall itinerary leaves a lot to be desired and there was no added cultural/historical context by Intrepid. I suggest adding an additional day in Skye, with a tour of the Island, booking the locomotive train over the Glenfinnan Viaduct to help counter cancellations (we were not able to do this part of the itinerary since our public train was cancelled), and adding the Cairngorms Park visit back to the itinerary, with less time in Inverness.
