Do I need a permit to hike to Machu Picchu?
Inca Trail 2026 permits drop in November. Spots are limited – book now to secure your trek.
You'll need a permit to hike the Peru's legenadary Inca Trail. Permits are limited and sell out fast, so it's important to book early to secure your spot.
If you'd rather not worry about permits, you could opt for the lesser-known Quarry Trail or the Salkantay Trek – both offer incredible Andean scenery and the chance to visit Machu Picchu after the trek.
Inca Trail permit info
There are only 500 permits available each day – 200 are for tourists, and the rest are for guides, porters and support crew. Peruvian authorities have made it compulsory for all Inca Trail trekkers to be accompanied by a licensed guide, so you'll need to book with a registered operator.
When you book with us, we’ll take care of the permit for you. Just make sure you have your passport details ready at the time of booking.
Permits are first-come, first-served, so try to book as early as possible. We typically secure your permit within two working days of getting all your information.
Also, keep in mind that permits are non-refundable, non-changeable and non-transferable, so make sure the details you provide are correct.
