The closest major airport to Clare Valley is Adelaide — this is also where our Clare Valley trips begin. From here, it's a 1.5 hour drive to the region. The Clare Valley Aerodrome is located just 14 kilometres north of the township, but it's not used for commercial flights. If you're not joining us on a tour and don't fancy driving, a coach service is also available from Adelaide to Clare Valley.

The easiest way to get around Clare Valley is by car or with a private tour. You could also cycle if you're feeling energetic. Apart from the coaches in and out of the Clare Valley region, there's no public transport.

It's difficult to travel around to the wineries, beaches and other attractions if you don’t have some form of transport.

Clare Valley has a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Temperatures in the summer (December to February) can sizzle, but the average high sits around 28°C. Rainfall is minimal in spring and summer, so this is when to enjoy long days outside enjoying the sunshine and sipping on delicious wine.

Any time is a good time to visit Clare Valley. Summer can be warm, but cool sea breezes keep the temperature at a comfortable level for walking and outdoor pursuits.

Autumn brings with it crisp mornings and nights, while winter is perfect for snuggling up in front of a fire with a glass of red wine.

The weather in spring is generally good, although it can get chilly after the sun goes down.

What to pack will depend on the time of year you're visiting, but you can't go wrong with clothes you can layer, plus a jumper or jacket and wet weather gear.

One or two smart casual outfits should be more than enough for dining out unless you're planning on visiting many high-end restaurants or wineries.

There's good wi-fi and mobile data coverage in Clare Valley's major towns. However, if you're visiting some of the more remote areas such as those around Burra, you may experience periods with no internet access.
