Internet access in Mexico

When travelling in Mexico you’ll find wi-fi available in most accommodations, bigger restaurants, airports and in some public spaces. It’s also easy and affordable to buy a local SIM card for the duration of your Mexico tour. Some parts of Mexico, particularly rural areas, may have limited mobile coverage and internet access.

Local carriers in Mexico

The main carriers in Mexico are Telcel, AT&T, Movistar. They’re all quite similarly priced, but Telcel has the best coverage.

Purchasing a SIM

A Telcel SIM card with a month’s validity costs MEX 200–600 (USD 10–32) depending on the amount of data you need during your Mexico tour.

A local SIM card can be purchased at the airport, at a Telcel/AT&T/Movistar stores or at one of Mexico’s many Oxxo convenience stores.
