See a city of significance
Turkistan is home to many of Kazakhstan’s unique cultural, religious and historic sites. The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, built in 1389 by Persian master builders but never finished, is regarded as a religious pilgrimage site like Mecca, while the Caravan Serai complex is a living replica of an ancient Silk Road trade centre.
Kolsay Lakes National Park
Take a break from the cities and settlements and enjoy a moment of calm in Kazakhstan’s Kolsay Lakes. Framed by mountains and sloping green hills, the lakes, nicknamed ‘the blue necklace,’ are a true breath of fresh air. While in the area, hike over to the site of a 1911 earthquake, which caused the submerged forest of Kaindy Lake.
