Why you'll love this trip

  • Learn about the origins of Scottish Christianity on the island of Iona – a Christian pilgrimage site for almost 1500 years. Visit the Iona Abbey Museum and admire the architecture of the local 13th-century church.
  • Visit Britain’s only dual UNESCO World Heritage Site, St Kilda – recognised for both its human and natural wonders. Encounter this island’s 4000-year history, plus see the native St Kilda wren and the UK’s largest colony of Atlantic puffins.
  • Encounter Norse culture and history on the Faroe Islands. Explore the less-visited town of Vagur, fringed with basalt cliffs, and the capital of Torshavn, where you’ll see turf-roofed buildings and a vast collection of Faroese art at the National Museum.
  • Hear locals speaking Gaelic in Stornoway, one of the few towns in Scotland where this language is spoken on a daily basis. Here, you’ll also see the Neolithic Calanais Stones (which predate Stonehenge!).
  • Uncover the story of the infamous 1973 volcanic eruption on Heimaey, the largest of the Westman Islands.
