If you're wondering whether you need a visa for Brazil, we've put together this guide to help you.

Do I need a tourist visa to travel to Brazil?

In short, maybe – depending on your nationality. Foreign nationals from over 60 countries – including folks from EU countries, the United States, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada – can enter Brazil without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism purposes. You’ll need an empty page in your passport as it’ll be stamped by a border officer on arrival. Make sure it’s stamped, or else you may be fined on departure.

Foreign nationals eligible for visa-free entry may also be able to extend their stay in Brazil. To do this, you’ll need to book an appointment at a Brazilian Federal Police Office, complete an online application form and attend your appointment with the required documents. Although you can do this yourself, you may wish to pay for an agent if you’re worried about language barriers or need tailored advice.

If you’re not from a visa-exempt country, you’ll need to apply for a visa at your nearest Brazilian diplomatic mission prior to departure. The documents required for a Brazilian tourist visa include a valid passport, a biometric passport photo, proof of income, and evidence of travel documents (e.g. return travel tickets, confirmation of tour booking, hotel reservation, etc).

It's important to note that entry requirements can change at any time, so you should always check for the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website for Brazil for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality.

Entry requirements for Brazil

To enter Brazil you must be able to provide:

  • passport valid for at least six months after the date you arrive in Brazil – it's worth taking a clear photocopy of your passport photo page and visa/entry stamp as well

  • proof of sufficient funds for the duration of your trip

  • evidence of onward travel, e.g. flight ticket

  • evidence of your accommodation in Brazil, e.g. a hotel reservation

You may also need to fulfil COVID-19 vaccination requirements. Check the latest advice from your nearest Brazilian diplomatic mission.
