October 2025
Global tour operator appoints Richard Wise to drive global expansion of its bespoke travel division in bid to offer greater customer personalisation
Intrepid Travel, the world’s largest adventure travel company and a leader in responsible travel, has appointed Richard Wise as its General Manager Tailor-Made, as the company accelerates growth in its customised travel division to meet evolving customer preferences.
Based in London, Wise will report directly to Intrepid CEO James Thornton and will be responsible for developing and rapidly scaling the company’s Tailor-Made business model. This specifically caters to travellers seeking immersive experiences designed exclusively for them. Wise previously spent 13 years at Audley Travel, working in various senior roles in the UK and the United States.
This is a newly created role and the appointment comes as Intrepid responds to increasing demand for personalised travel, with the company reporting a 19% year-on-year increase in Tailor-Made bookings. Tailor-Made allows travellers to explore Intrepid’s signature style of experience-rich travel with itineraries crafted for families, friends, or private groups.
James Thornton, CEO of Intrepid Travel, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Richard to our team, especially at this time when travellers are seeking a more personalised experience. Richard brings a wealth of experience and strategic insight to this role to unlock the enormous potential we see in this space.”
Commenting on his appointment, Wise said: “Tailor-Made represents a powerful opportunity to connect more deeply with our customers and deliver travel experiences that are as unique as they are impactful. I look forward to working with our global teams to deliver market-leading experiential travel that travellers are seeking.”
The appointment aligns with Intrepid’s broader strategy to diversify its product portfolio and expand its global footprint.
Wise has commenced the role effective immediately.
