Yucatan Peninsula Adventure

Ancient ruins, colourful cities and natural wonders in Mexico's Yucatan

From tropical beaches and cenotes to the well-preserved ruins of the Maya peoples, the Yucatan Peninsula’s draws are many. On this eight-day adventure, you’ll learn more about the lives of ancient civilisations at Chichen Itza – one of the Seven Wonders of the World – and at Uxmal – another amazing archaeological site, but with fewer tourists. Try traditional cuisine in Tulum, swim in clean, clear water unique to this limestone area and visit a Maya-managed cenote that directly supports the community. Try fresh seafood, listen to local music play through the streets of colourful old cities and visit Lake Bacalar – this local favourite is still being discovered by the rest of the world and is known as ‘the Lagoon of 7 Colours’ for its warm blue waters of varying depths.

Is this trip right for you?

  • The tropical climate of Central America means conditions can be hot and humid. Always carry plenty of water with you and stay hydrated, especially on walking tours. There will of course be plenty of chances to swim!
  • It's a good idea to learn as many Spanish words as you can. Locals are very friendly, but can be shy, so you'll need to make an effort to break the ice. It's a great way to show respect and involve yourself in their culture.
