Why you'll love this trip
  • Uncover thousands of years of civilisation in Athens with a visit to the world-famous Acropolis and the ancient Agora
  • Like endless pilgrims before you, visit the home of the Oracle of Delphi in the Sanctuary of Apollo, one of Greece's most important archaeological sites
  • Be mesmerised by the magical monasteries of Meteora, an extraordinary site precariously perched on a series of ancient rock pinnacles
  • Discover the many flavours of Greek cuisine. There's nothing quite like dining on rich and hearty moussaka or grilled lamb and tzatziki in a traditional taverna as Rembetika music floats around you

Is this trip right for you?
  • Summer temperatures can be extreme in Greece (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
  • Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.
  • On this trip you must pack as lightly as possible because you will be expected to carry your own bag and although you won't be required to walk long distances with your luggage (max 30 minutes), we strongly recommend keeping the weight under 15kg / 33lb. Most travellers carry their luggage in a backpack, although an overnight bag with a shoulder strap would suffice if you travel lightly. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient although we recommend your bag has carry straps to accommodate the cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, stairs and steps you are likely to encounter while carrying your luggage. You'll also need a day pack/bag to carry water and a camera etc for day trips.
  • If you have more time to explore the region you may want to check out our trip ‘Best of Greece’ (trip code ZMSAC). This trip explores the beautiful Cycladic Islands in addition to the Greek mainland. Most departure dates are designed to create this perfect combination trip.

I cannot speak highly enough of Intrepid’s organisation, use of local guides, excellent group and individual care and overall customer service. I travelled on my own as part of a group of 12 and felt included from the start. I would totally recommend Intrepid for all these reasons.

The Mainland Greece trip was so worth it, with excellent activities included and excellent add ons. Our trip leader, Dina, was phenomenal, as we're her suggestions for sites, activities, and food. The trip truly was wonderful.

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this trip! The itinerary was well thought-out, the pace was perfect, the food delicious and our tour leader, Dina, was fantastic! She was fully engaged at all times, fun, knowledgeable, extremely personable and passionate about the many wonders of Greece. Furthermore, Dina selected excellent guides at historical sights and hand-picked amazing restaurants, and specialized visits to a winery and, best of all, to a beautiful family-run restaurant and olive farm. I'd enthusiastically recommend this trip to anyone interested in visiting Greece!

Mainland Greece was simply a terrific tour. Our awesome leader, Dina, made the trip so enjoyable and fun for everyone. The itinerary was fabulous; every day was packed with lots to see and do. We learned so much about Greek history, culture, food and mythology. Wish it was a couple of days longer. The time really went by quickly.
