Margaret River is located three hours south of Perth by car. The easiest way to get there is by travelling via Perth. If you're travelling interstate or from outside of Australia, you can fly into Perth Airport or transfer to one of the regional airports near Margaret River.
The drive to Margaret River is fairly straightforward. You can take the Kwinana Freeway out of Perth which eventually leads onto the Forrest Highway. From here, follow the directions to Bunbury, Busselton and then Margaret River. You can also take the South Western Freeway inland. It takes slightly longer, but the drive is more scenic.
By public transport
If you don’t fancy driving, you can take a coach from Perth to Margaret River with South West Coach Lines via Busselton or with TransWA via Bunbury. The coaches are comfortable and you get a generous allowance for stowed and hand luggage.
The closest airport is Busselton Airport (50km north of Margaret River). Daily flights run between Busselton and Perth and a few smaller airports in regional WA, as well as three flights per week to Melbourne. The next closest airports are Perth and Albany.
Getting around Margaret River
The easiest way to get around Margaret River is by car or with a private tour group. Apart from the coaches in and out of the Margaret River region, there is no public transport. The main township is compact and easy to walk around, but it's difficult to explore the region and get to the wineries and beaches if you don’t have a car.
