Our average group size of 10 (usually 3 to 5 like-minded families) means we can use local transport, eat at family-run restaurants, and stay in traditional guesthouses and homestays. All relations are welcome – as long as you’re with a child aged between 5 and 17, you’re a family in our eyes.
Family trips for school holidays
Swap the classroom for an adventure
School might be out, but the learning continues on our family holidays – except it's extra fun and there's no homework. Maybe you have budding conservationists in the family who’d like to visit a rhino sanctuary in Botswana or plant grass for pygmy elephants in Borneo. For the creative kids (and grown-ups), how about making wool monsters in Iceland or turning ocean waste into art in the Galapagos? And don’t worry – there'll be plenty of time for some well-earned R&R along the way. With all the details taken care of and a local leader to show you around, these are big family holidays with little planning required.
Family trips
Where you can go
Our family trips for teenagers are built for young explorers aged 10 to 17. They offer more active itineraries for older children.
Highlights
There’s something for the whole family to learn at Machu Picchu. Did you know this 15th century citadel was built with stones stacked so tightly – without mortar – that not even a knife blade will fit between them? Or that the Incas were amazing astronomers who studied the stars to plan the harvest seasons? You can bet this is a history class they won't forget in a hurry.
Experience a true winter wonderland in the official hometown of Santa Claus. Zip across Lapland’s white landscapes on the back of a husky sled, visit Rudolph and Prancer at a family-run reindeer farm and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. And don’t let the kids forget their Christmas wish lists, as there’ll be a chance to meet the big man himself (and his elves) in Santa’s Office!
With bullet trains, quirky vending machines and smart toilets, Japan is a fascinating country for all ages. But one of the coolest experiences is ordering lunch with a robot. Artificial intelligence aside, Dawn Avatar Cafe in Tokyo is all about human connection. The servers are operated remotely by people with disabilities. Chat with them and hear their stories, then watch the kids have a go at operating an avatar themselves.
Jump in a 4WD and drive deep into Wadi Rum for a night under Jordan's famously clear skies. Stop along the way to burn energy exploring the red dunes and Mars-like landscapes, then settle into your camp for some Bedouin hospitality. If the kids can’t get enough of the stars, you can always grab a desert blanket and sleep in the open air. How's that for a sleepover?
Why choose us
One of the hardest parts of family travel is keeping everyone happy, which is why our trips have loads of fun, educational activities for all ages. We keep travel time to a minimum, use hotels with pools where we can and include plenty of downtime so you and the kids can do your own thing. Your leader can also suggest activities based on your kids' hobbies or curriculum.
Our leaders are specially trained to run family adventures and they get along great with the kids. You can also relax knowing we use trusted local operators and run safety assessments on all our activities and transport to make sure they meet our strict safety policy. You'll all be well taken care of.
Making a difference has been part of our journey from day one. Through our non-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, we support organisations driving change around the world. And as a certified B Corp, we’re committed to doing good through the joy of travel.
