Some places were simply made for cycling, and New Zealand is no exception
It’s no secret that New Zealand boasts some of the world’s most dramatic scenery. And we think one of the best ways to get up close and personal with it is on two wheels. From rippled mountains that brood over wide open plains to bubbling rivers flanked by rocky gorges, rolling through this ever-changing landscape may just be the ride of your life. Not to mention top-notch Kiwi hospitality, local taverns and lovingly crafted produce that’ll put some pep in your pedal throughout the journey.

Why choose us
Our cycling trips include bike hire. Our bikes come in a full range of sizes and are chosen to suit the terrain you'll be covering. They're serviced regularly, and any broken chains or flat tyres will be fixed by your leader. Most trips also offer e-bike hire (at an additional cost).
Our maximum group size is 16 people, though they usually average 10. The beauty of small group travel is that you can visit out-of-the-way places and get to know the locals while enjoying a good social mix and plenty of camaraderie along the way.
Our local leaders are all cycling junkies. They undergo rigorous training, including running safety checks and basic repairs. That said, they’re still regular Intrepid leaders – meaning they know all the best local bars, restaurants and hidden spots away from the tourists.
We run safety assessments on all our trips and our leaders are specially trained to run cycling adventures and provide basic first aid. Most of our cycling trips also have a support vehicle in case of injury, hazardous weather or road conditions – or if you’d like to give your legs a rest.
Intrepid travellers seek to leave a positive impact and give back to the places they visit. By joining a cycling trip, you’ll support our Intrepid Foundation cycling partner, World Bicycle Relief. Donations provide children, health workers and farmers in low-income communities with durable bicycles, research and mechanics training.
Riding a bike is good for you (even factoring in the odd Tuscan cellar door pitstop). But it’s also better for the environment. All Intrepid trips are 100% carbon offset, but a large chunk of our cycling trips are powered by the greenest energy of all: yours!
