Immersive Kayaking offers a dedicated group of up to ten participants the opportunity to kayak during most excursions and landings.
Discover Kayaking is a one-time outing for up to 14 travellers, offering the chance to paddle alongside incredible icebergs and wildlife.
Both programs are led by experienced kayak guides and supported by a safety Zodiac.

Immersive Kayaking
Designed for more experienced paddlers who want to spend as much time on the water as possible during their voyage, this program is limited to ten participants. You'll have the opportunity to kayak during most excursions and landings and will be accompanied by a dedicated kayak guide and safety Zodiac.
Discover Kayaking
Ideal for travellers who want to experience polar kayaking without committing to multiple outings. Each traveller gets one kayaking outing per voyage, in a group of up to 14 paddlers, with a dedicated team and safety Zodiac.
For both programs, participants must be aged 14 or older.
Our experienced kayak guides select paddling locations based on protected waters, wildlife and scenery. Outings take place near the day's scheduled landing or excursion site, but guides make every effort to find a location that offers the best, most immersive experience.
Immersive and Discover groups will paddle in different areas and each outing typically lasts between one and three hours. All kayaking locations are subject to weather and sea conditions.
Basic kayaking experience is recommended for polar kayaking excursions, and travellers must be able to swim. Immersive Kayaking is designed for more experienced paddlers, while Discover Kayaking is a great option for travellers looking to try polar kayaking. An adventurous attitude is a must for both options.
Although kayaking excursions only occur when the sea is calm, a good level of fitness is a requirement, as conditions can change quickly. Even if your experience is limited, we’d encourage you to speak to your booking agent to discuss your suitability, as there is often ample time to gain the experience you need before you depart.
Immersive Kayaking is limited to ten participants, while Discover Kayaking accommodates groups of up to 14 paddlers.
The total number of available kayaking spots on each departure varies depending on itinerary length and weather conditions.
Kayaking spots are limited, so we recommend signing up as early as possible once you're booked on your voyage. A waitlist may also be available on board.
All the equipment you need for your kayaking outing is provided, including:
- Tandem sea kayaks with rudders
- Dry suits and spray skirts
- Paddling mitts (pogies) and neoprene gloves
- Neoprene boots
- Personal floatation devices (PFDs)
- Small dry bags for personal belongings
What should I wear polar kayaking?
You'll wear a dry suit over your own thermal layers. We recommend moisture-wicking thermal long underwear and a light or midweight warm layer like a polar fleece. Your kayak can get quite cold, so we recommend wearing heavy wool socks and moisture-wicking liners. It's best to avoid cotton, as it doesn't retain warmth when wet.
What should I bring?
We recommend bringing:
- Weatherproof binoculars
- A waterproof case for your camera or phone
- Sunscreen
Safety is our top priority. Before your first outing, our certified and experienced kayaking team will provide a thorough safety briefing, fit you with appropriate gear and explain how to use it correctly.
Before each outing, safety equipment is inspected to ensure everything is in good working order. Every group is accompanied by a kayak guide, with a safety Zodiac on call.
