Intrepid Travel doubles support for Grand Canyon wildfire recovery - $40k and counting
Intrepid Travel, a world leader in responsible travel, is stepping up for the Grand Canyon following devastating wildfires, with staff and travelers rallying behind recovery efforts and donations surging past expectations.
Doug Campbell, Philanthropy Director at Wildland Trekking — an Intrepid owned specialist brand — has already raised nearly $10,000 USD for the Grand Canyon Conservancy. With initial matching contributions, that figure has doubled to $20,000 USD, supporting the restoration of trails, wildlife habitats, and critical infrastructure.
To boost the effort even further, the Intrepid Foundation has announced an additional $10,000 USD in matching funds, meaning every dollar donated will now be matched up to $20,000 USD, potentially taking the total to a massive $40,000 USD for recovery efforts.
"The Grand Canyon is one of the most iconic landscapes on Earth, and it needs us right now," said Leigh Barnes, Intrepid Travel President, The Americas. "Doug’s passion has inspired our community, and this is exactly what Intrepid is about — travelers coming together to protect the places we love."
Campbell, who kickstarted the fundraiser, said his love for the Grand Canyon made taking action a no-brainer.
"The Grand Canyon is more than just a travel destination – it’s a living, breathing wonder of the world," said Campbell. "Seeing the damage from the fires was heartbreaking but knowing we can all pitch in to help bring it back makes every step of this fundraiser worth it."
All donations will go directly to the Grand Canyon Conservancy to fund restoration and conservation projects in the wake of the wildfires.
