Is this trip right for you?
- The primary means of transportation on this trip is by train, offering fast travel across long distances without traffic delays, delivering you directly into city centres. Trains are comfortable and equipped with toilets but can be busy.
- Please note that you'll have to carry your own luggage on and off the trains, as well as up and down stairs at stations and hotels. Please ensure your luggage adheres to our weight and size guidelines outlined in the 'Packing' section of the Essential Trip Information.
- Summer temperatures in many visited regions can exceed 40c, so protect yourself from the sun and stay hydrated. Keep in mind that July, August and early September constitute high season along the Southern Italian coast, impacting local infrastructure due to increased visitor numbers.
- Hotel rooms in Europe may differ from American or Australian standards, often featuring two single beds that can be pushed together instead of a double and shared bathrooms rather than en-suite facilities.
- For those with extra time, consider extending your trip to explore more of Italy. Explore further south into the heel of Italy with our ‘Rome to Southern Italy’ trip (trip code ZMSSC) or head down to Sicily with our ‘Rome to Sicily’ trip (trip code ZMSFC).

Important notes
1. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
2. Please note that the physical rating for this trip is set at 2. While this is correct for the overall trip, there are some components that are of a higher physical rating. Both the climb to the summit of Mt Vesuvius and the hike on the Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) require a certain amount of fitness. Please read the day-to-day itinerary carefully or speak to your leader for more details. Activities can be opted out of if you don't want to participate.
3. You don't have a lot of time in Rome at the start of the trip, so if you're keen to explore this spectacular city in depth we recommend you arrive a day or two before the start of the trip, especially if you would like to see the Vatican Museum as it is closed most Sundays. Please check opening times here: https://www.museivaticani.va/content/museivaticani/en.html
