Getting around Port Douglas

Getting around Port Douglas is relatively easy by car but becomes a little bit harder if you're planning on getting around via public transport due to the limited options available. Having said that, there are regular buses that can provide transport to nearby areas but the best way to travel around Port Douglas is by car as the streets are well signed and easy to navigate. If you didn't drive to Port Douglas there are a heap of car rental options available to make your trip more convenient. If you didn't want to hire a car then you can use taxis or different rideshare options to travel around this spectacular destination. 

Car rental in Port Douglas 

Hiring a car for the duration of your trip to Port Douglas is relatively easy. Cairns International Airport (CNS) is the closest international airport to Port Douglas, located about an hour from the tropical destination. If you wanted to hire a car, you have 6 hire companies to choose from; Thrifty, Avis, Budget Car Rental, Europcar, Hertz, and Redspot. These are all located at the northern end of the CNS's Domestic Terminal and at the Arrival Hall of the International Terminal making it super easy to secure your transportation to Port Douglas. 

The price of renting a car from Cairns International Airport can vary depending on the vehicle type you're after, whether it's a peak period and how long you'll need the car for. However, prices can start at as little as $36AUD per day and go all the way up to over $200AUD per day. 

Walking and cycling in Port Douglas

You can hire a bike if you want to explore the scenic landscape further with two stores offering bike rentals; Port Douglas Bikeworks located on Macrossan Street and Port Douglas Bike Hire on the corner of Warner and Wharf Streets. 

Alternatively, you can also walk from different locations depending on how far apart they are as Port Douglas is quite small in size and most things are within walking distance from the popular resorts and other accommodation.
