Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. It's important to understand that each country you visit may have its own specific entry requirements, and some destinations mandate travel health insurance for all foreign travellers, regardless of their nationality.

We require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation, but minimum coverage may differ from trip to trip, so make sure you check the Travel Insurance section in your Essential Trip Information. You will not be permitted to join the group until your leader has sighted your insurance policy number and the insurance company's 24-hour emergency contact number, and these details will be recorded on the first day of your trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is an essential part of every journey.

For travellers who reside within the European Union, Switzerland or the USA, the requirement to purchase travel insurance cannot be compulsory. However, the purchase of travel insurance is still highly recommended, and travellers from these regions who decline travel insurance when travelling outside their home region must sign a Travel Insurance Waiver Form, recognising personal responsibility for emergency medical and repatriation costs should they arise.

The best times to visit the Grampians are usually around the seasons of spring, summer and autumn for pleasant hiking temperatures.

Spring is ideal for hiking as the temperatures sit around 15 to 25°C and it's not too busy, so there'll be less foot traffic on the trails. You'll also be treated to the sight of native wildflowers and if you're really lucky, you might see a cute baby kangaroo (AKA a joey) as spring is the birthing season.

Summer is the high season. The weather is hot and sunny with average highs of 25 to 30°C and minimal rain, so it's a great time to explore all the region has to offer.

Autumn brings cooler temperatures, making it easier to do some of the more challenging hikes if you don't enjoy the heat. It's also a very scenic time of year as the vineyards burst with autumnal colours.

Winter is low season, but the cosy vibes are perfect for sampling the region's wine and local produce.

The best items to pack for a trip to the Grampians include various layers, comfortable and weather-resistant hiking gear and sun protection.

Bring a few t-shirts or lightweight shirts, a pair of shorts/hiking trousers/leggings, a warm jumper/fleece and a waterproof jacket.

The Traditional Custodians of the Grampians Mountain Range (Gariwerd) are the Djab Wurrung, the Jardwadjali and the Dja Dja Wurrung people.

For millennia, the land of the Grampians has provided the Traditional Custodians with food, water and shelter, and many Creation Stories of the area have been passed down through generations. This land holds a spiritual significance, visible through the rock art adorning the stony landscape.
