The best time to visit Victoria is generally during the summer months, from December to February. During these times, the days are longer and sunnier with less rain.

This is the busy season with school holidays and many Australians travelling domestically to popular regions. If you’d prefer to visit when there are fewer crowds but moderate weather, consider travelling in the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) or spring (September to November).

Travellers to Victoria should pack a swimsuit, comfortable walking shoes, a hat and a rain jacket.

As a southern state, Victoria does get cooler than the rest of Australia, especially in autumn and winter, so packing a few warm layers and a rain jacket is a good idea.

You’ll need quality walking shoes if you’re travelling to hike in the high country or Grampians area, as those regions often have rough terrain.
