Why you'll love this trip
  • Visit Trondheim, which translates as 'a good place to live', stroll past the colourful wooden storehouses flanking the river, ride the northernmost tram and enjoy a forest walk and picnic just like the locals do.
  • Gaze at the immense Nidaros Cathedral, an incredible Gothic building that houses the remains of St Olav, the patron saint of Norway.
  • Explore the long-adored Lofoten Islands, a patchwork of fishing villages, and head out to the narrow Trollfjord for a chance to see sea eagles and to take in some of the most breathtaking scenery in the entire world.
  • Hop on an e-bike in Tromso, and learn about life hundreds of kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, where the arts and culture scene is thriving despite its isolated, northerly location.

Is this trip right for you?
  • The areas visited on this trip can be very cold at night throughout the year, especially at the start and end of the season. Please bring appropriate clothing for adverse weather conditions, including base layers, hat, gloves, scarf, coat and anything else that you think may be applicable.
  • Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together/apart. Some accommodation on this trip may also have shared bathroom facilities.
  • On this trip you must pack as lightly as possible because you will be expected to carry your own bag and although you won't be required to walk long distances with your luggage (max 30 minutes), we strongly recommend keeping the weight between 15kg / 33lb. Most travellers carry their luggage in a backpack, although an overnight bag with a shoulder strap would suffice if you travel lightly. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient although we recommend your bag has carry straps to accommodate the cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, stairs and steps you are likely to encounter while carrying your luggage. You'll also need a day pack/bag to carry water and a camera etc for day trips.

Important notes

Please note due to overnight train overbookings this summer, all departures in 2023 season apart from 26 July, will follow amended schedule with a local flight from Trondheim to Bodo on day 3, followed by evening ferry and overnight stay on Lofoten Islands. Updated itinerary: Day 1 Oslo, Day 2 Trondheim, Day 3 Afternoon flight to Bodo and ferry to Lofoten Island, overnight on Lofoten Islands, Day 4 Lofoten Island (hike), Day 5 Lofoten islands (Trollfjord Cruise & Sea Eagle Safari), Days 6-8 Tromso.

Due to this change, we are forced to remove the Bymark Walk and picnic lunch on Day 2 in Trondheim. This will be replaced with a similar standard hike to Linken peak on Lofoten Island on Day 4. For those who are up for a further challenge and exercise your leader can additionally take you on the extended Tjeldbergtinden hike.

Great way to experience length of Norway and see amazing scenery, churches, museums, and more. Be prepared for a couple of long (all day) travel days.

Great trip. Shane was amazing. Made the whole trip very relaxed. Great group of people on the tour. I would say logistical wise. I’ve never been in intrepid trip with so much public transport and resulting unpredictability. 3.5-4/8 days spent in purely travel although the ferry rides were dramatically scenic. Norway was beautiful.

An amazing adventure! Well worth it if you'd like to see as much Norway as possible. The travel days were well balanced with local walks and time to explore. Definitely recommended!

This trip consists of a couple long travel days. But with the amount of things you get to see you will welcome the rest and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Norway. Our leader, Nikolai, went above and beyond to make the experience one of a kind. This is one of the best ways to get the most of Norway. Ours didn't include the night train, but we got an extra night in Lofoten Islands which was more enjoyable then a night train. Also making Svolvera the highlight.
