This trip is for the 18 to 29 year olds

Morocco might make you think of big, busy markets and even bigger deserts, but there’s so much more to this exciting country in north-western Africa than first meets the eye. Take a five-day adventure to some of Morocco’s most colourful spots, with time to check out some of the country's best beaches (and maybe catch a wave or five) along the way. Taghazout is a magnet for Moroccan chillers thanks to some A-grade Atlantic surf, and the seaside town of Essaouira is made for kicking back and soaking up some cultural vibes. Check out some of Morocco’s best-kept secrets, like the uber-cool beach-side towns where Hendrix spent time in the 60s, and hunt for the best rooftop bars in Marrakech in your free time to watch the sunset over Djemaa el-Fna. This relaxing but highlight-packed introduction to Morocco is sure to leave you wanting more.

Why you'll love this trip
  • It’s not a stretch to say that relaxing yoga lessons on the south coast are a highlight. Limber up before using the same balancing manoeuvres on a surfboard in Taghazout – one of the best local spots for surfing.
  • Feel the pulse of Marrakech with an included street food dinner in the square – maybe even try the popular snail soup! Eat where the locals eat and taste authentic Morocco as you take in the bustling nightlife around you.
  • Experience Djemaa el-Fna Square as the sun descends and see one of the largest public spaces in the world come to life. Watch street performers, listen to local storytellers and maybe even get a henna tattoo.
  • Get to know Essaouira, named ‘little picture’ for a reason – and rub shoulders with the locals as you traverse the picturesque, whitewashed walls with a local guide who knows all the go-to spots.
  • Whether it’s surfing, swimming or just lazing on the sand with a good book – exploring the local beaches in Morocco’s fishing villages is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, Education for All. Donations help them support girls in the High Atlas Mountains through secondary school, bringing a generation of women out of the cycle of illiteracy, poverty and early marriage.

Is this trip right for you?
  • In 2024, Ramadan will take place from 10 March to 08 April. Travelling during this holy month can be a rewarding cultural experience, however some regular services may not be available during the daytime, such as restaurants or coffee bars, and occasionally travel can be disrupted by events. Your leader will adjust the itinerary accordingly, but please consider your travel arrangements carefully before booking travel for this period.
  • As Morocco has a tipping culture, travellers are expected to tip small amounts for most services, so please be prepared. Your leader will suggest methods and amounts to tip during the trip, but it is left to the group to decide the details.
  • Although you shouldn’t expect any aggressive selling techniques in Morocco, please be aware that you may be approached by shop owners and street vendors offering their goods to you on regular occasions.
  • Summer temperatures in Morocco can be uncomfortably hot, especially for those who aren't accustomed to the heat, so please consider what time of year you travel with this in mind. If you do travel in the warmer months, pack layers to cover you from the sun, bring the necessary sun protection and drink plenty of water. The desert can also get cold at night, so bring base layers and warm clothing.
  • We have sourced our accommodation very carefully and picked the best possible hotels in line with the Intrepid style of travel, but please note that service and accommodation in Morocco may be different to western standards.

Important notes

1. How to endear yourself to the locals: don’t pose for photos where the holiest of holy people pray. If you want to take a photo of people, always ask - they may say no, so respect that. Even if it’s hot, cover your shoulders, knees and hair. Don’t shake someone’s hand or eat with your left hand - this is the one you use to wipe your butt.
2. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement excludes Days 2 and 3 (Surf Camp) where you will be in shared accommodation and is subject to availability. Please also note that there is a limited amount of single supplements available per trip departure. If you would like to book a single supplement and enquire about availability, please speak to your booking agent for further information.

Such a good trip! Great balance of city time exploring streets and medinas contrasted with time doing activities like yoga and surfing! Our guide Hicham was incredible. Would recommend this trip for anyone looking at coming to Morocco

Highly recommend this trip! All of the locations we visited were beautiful and fully of culture and history. I love activities so the surf camp and mountain hike were perfect for me. The highlight, however, was meeting all the beautiful Moroccan people and like minded fellow travellers from an over the world.

Extremely recommend this tour. The surfing component maybe only better in the winter months, but our tour guide Mo was elite and made the tour
