Why you'll love this trip
  • The much-photographed Registan in Samarkand is one of the true pinnacles of Islamic architecture. You'll be wowed by the scale, grandeur and beauty of the monuments to iconic figures such as Tamerlane and the Persia-influenced madressas, mosques and mausoleums.
  • Central Asia is a fascinating and unique mix of ancient Silk Road culture, Soviet influence and striving to redefine nations post independence. Geographically and for a time historically, it is the real centre of Asia.
  • Spend an evening in the isolated Kyzylkum Desert, warming yourself by the fire and sleeping in a yurt.
  • Get to really know the stories and people of Uzbekistan while sharing home-cooked meals with local families, including a home stay in the remote Nuratau Mountains.
  • Spend time in World Heritage-listed Bukhara, a 6th-century-BC city that's drenched in history and home to the formidable Ark of Bukhara.

Is this trip right for you?
  • Still have some hesitation about going to Uzbekistan? Here are four reasons why you should visit: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/adventures/why-visit-uzbekistan-now/
  • Central Asia is a remote destination, perfect for intrepid travellers in the true sense of the word! You will venture well away from cities, right off the beaten track and be able to immerse yourself in local food, life and culture.
  • Accommodation may on occasion be more basic than what you are used to in homestays, guesthouses and yurt stay. Shower and toilet facilities will be limited in some places and non existent in others. While the comfort level won't always be high, the rewards of living in true local style in this far-out part of the world are immeasurable.
  • As the trip only has limited time in Tashkent, we highly recommend staying a few extra days before or after your tour to enjoy all this great city has to offer
  • Most sights in Uzbekistan require a separate ticket to take photos. This is usually just a few dollars at each site, but be prepared with plenty of change in local currency and ensure you budget for this in your sightseeing.

I went on the Uzbekistan Adventure trip with Jonibek as the tour leader and it was an amazing trip! If you are on the fence, just book it. Amazing sites, history, culture, friendly people and left with new friends. 10/10 recommend. The weather was perfect at the end of October.

This trip was incredible. Before people would ask why are you going there? where even is uzbekistan? Isnt there a war going on near there? I didnt know how to reply then because i had no idea, but now those seem like very silly questions. Id ask them now, you dont know about Uzbekistan!? And im telling them all about it! We never caught a whiff of any danger of anything in or outside Uzbekistan. Our guide, Jonibek, took such good care of us and equipped us with so much knowledge that I'll be teaching courses to my family for months. I really can't recommend this trip enough to see a burgeoning country before tourism really takes off was a wonderful experience.

Uzbekistan, a land steeped in rich history and captivating culture, beckons travelers with its allure of ancient Silk Road cities, stunning architecture, and warm hospitality. For those seeking an efficient yet enriching journey, Intrepid's 9-day tour provides an excellent introduction to this mesmerizing nation. For those with the luxury of time, consider extending your adventure to neighboring Turkmenistan. Indeed, a great tour guide can make all the difference in transforming a good trip into an extraordinary one. Shukrat's expertise, passion, and genuine care for the group undoubtedly enhanced the adventure. His ability to share insights into the country's history, culture, and traditions enriched our experience, making it more meaningful and memorable.

What a GREAT experience. Uzbekistan is a hidden gem of a country, go there before it gets full of people because I'm sure it will! The trip is perfectly balanced by including big cities like Tashkent, impressive monuments and sites in Bukhara and Samarkand, the desert experience, and a lovely mountain village stay (a personal favorite). Our leader Jamshid went above and beyond to give us a very complete vision of his country and a great overall experience. We were very lucky to have him as our trip leader as we learned a lot from him, in many different ways. Definitely a country I will be back to!
