Intrepid Travel invests in new U.S. national parks and public lands bureau within Adventure.com

July 2025

Global travel publication Adventure.com, known for its in-depth storytelling and commitment to conscious travel, has announced the launch of a dedicated U.S. National Parks and Public Lands bureau. The investment is made possible through the support of its parent company, Intrepid Travel, as part of its United by Nature campaign.

This new bureau marks an intentional investment in environmental journalism at a time when public lands across the United States -and the world - are facing unprecedented threats. From extractive industry encroachment to weakened federal protections, America's wild places are under pressure, and Adventure.com is committed to telling the stories that matter.

“Our readers care deeply about the fate of public lands,” said Oliver Pelling, Editor-in-Chief at Adventure.com. “With this bureau, we aim to elevate the conversation, shine a light on those working to defend these places, and offer resources to travelers who want to explore responsibly.”

“Strong, independent journalism is one of the most powerful tools we have to defend these lands,” said Leigh Barnes, President of the Americas at Intrepid Travel. "By supporting this bureau, we're investing in meaningful storytelling that can raise awareness, drive accountability, and inspire real action to protect these places for everyone.”

The bureau is staffed by two new hires: Miyo McGinn, a journalist who has covered public lands for Grist, Outside, and Popular Science, who joins as National Parks Correspondent. Based in Seattle, McGinn will lead coverage on urgent environmental and accessibility issues within our National Parks and public lands.

McGinn will be joined by Gordy Megroz, Adventure.com's new Contributing Editor. Based in Colorado, Megroz brings a strong background in investigative reporting for publications such as Outside, Bloomberg, Wired, and National Geographic. Together, they will deliver impactful journalism on the frontlines of conservation.

This launch comes at a critical moment. In the United States, recent federal policies have rolled back key environmental protections, including threats to over 250 million acres of public lands. While some selloffs have been paused, millions of acres remain vulnerable to oil drilling, mining, logging, and commercial development.

Intrepid launched United by Nature in June in direct response to these threats, contributing $50,000 so far to help preserve US national parks through its Intrepid Foundation partner NPCA, and launching two limited-edition trips designed to inspire and empower activist travelers.
