Family trips

Adventures built for bonding

Our small group family trips are designed for curious kids and grown-ups to discover the world together. Packed with hands-on activities and real-world learning, they’re the kind of adventures you’ll be talking about for years to come. Like the time you had a sleepover on the salt flats in Botswana or made enrichment toys for sun bears in Borneo. Travelling with a local leader adds depth and helps you build confidence in unfamiliar places, and you’ll still have plenty of free time to make it your own.

But these trips are also built around connection – with your own kids and with the other families in your group. The collective awe. The inside jokes. The shared challenges and new perspectives. These are the moments together that mean the world.

Highlights

Make treats and toys for sun bears

Visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to see the world’s smallest (and only tropical) bears. Founder Dr Wong will teach you all about these intriguing forest dwellers – from their personalities to their unique chest markings – before sitting down to make puzzle feeders and scent-based enrichment toys. Then, watch your toys be put to the test from the observation platform.

Bring Egyptian history to life

Ancient Egypt is usually a favourite topic for kids at school, so it’s pretty special watching the tales of Cleopatra, Khufu and Tutankhamun come to life through their eyes. Visit the iconic Pyramids, which have stood tall for 4500 years, feel tiny as you stand beneath the Great Sphinx and wander the Mummies Hall for a close encounter with some of Egypt's most famous queens and pharaohs.

Have a sleepover in the Sahara

Hold on tight for a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes, then settle in for an epic campout under the Saharan skies – and just because you're in a remote location doesn’t mean roughing it! Your tents include large beds, ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning for good measure. After a traditional dinner, listen to live Gnaoua music around the fire and maybe have a competition with the kids to see who can spot the most shooting stars.

Sea lions relaxing on the shore in the Galapagos
Get close to nature in the Galapagos

The Galapagos Islands are your ticket to some unforgettable animal encounters. A typical day here might include snorkelling with turtles over ancient lava tubes, getting eye level with giant tortoises, or casually strolling the shores past penguins and sea lions. You and the kids will also turn ocean waste into feel-good souvenirs during a fun lesson that blends art and marine conservation.

Why choose us

Small, family-only groups

Our average group size of 10 (usually 3 to 5 like-minded families) means we can use local transport, eat at family-run restaurants, and stay in traditional guesthouses and homestays. All relations are welcome – as long as you’re with a child aged between 5 and 17, you’re a family in our eyes.

Designed by parents

One of the hardest parts of family travel is keeping everyone happy, which is why our trips have loads of fun, educational activities for all ages. We keep travel time to a minimum, use hotels with pools where we can and include plenty of downtime so you and the kids can do your own thing. Your leader can also suggest activities based on your kids' hobbies or curriculum.

Safety first

Our leaders are specially trained to run family adventures and they get along great with the kids. You can also relax knowing we use trusted local operators and run safety assessments on all our activities and transport to make sure they meet our strict safety policy. You'll all be well taken care of.

Travel that gives back

Making a difference has been part of our journey from day one. Through our non-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, we support organisations driving change around the world. And as a certified B Corp, we’re committed to doing good through the joy of travel.
